Metrologic Keyboard Wedge Barcode Scanner (MS5145)

We recently implemented barcode scanning. About 30% of the scanners do not work. They lock-up the keyboard and often the computer will not boot. The light on the scanner is on. When a barcode is placed underneath it, it beeps once. Pushing the button does nothing. Swapping scanner heads instantly fixes the problem (even if the computer is on and the keyboard is locked up). Are all of these scanners faulty or do they need to be reconfigured?

Are you using usb keyboards if so set the scanners to stand alone keyboard wedge you will find this in the manual. if this is not the case it could be that the scanner is set for a different keyboard type just set the scanner for keyboard wedge emulation. hope this helps Pete

I found a solution. The scanners needed to be reset to default. (via the manual) Thx anyway. Didn't know they could be configured for use without a kboard... That definately bit me once.

The barcode reader eclipse ms5145 powers on,the laser light blinks and beeps at scan by not scan the barcode

It could be either one of two things, first of all will this unit scan any barcodes, or is it just one particular one it will not scan. If nothing scans and if no special programming was added to the scanner I would consider defaulting the unit back to factory settings. This procedure can be found in the manual that came with the scanner or here is a link http://www.honeywellaidc.com/CatalogDocuments/00-02544%20Rev%20K%202-11.pdf *** If you are going to do this please confirm that no special programming was done to this *** but normally they are ready to scan right out the box. So scan the barcode to "enter/exit configuration" the unit will beep tree times, then scan the "recall defaults" and the unit will beep once. Then scan the "enter/exit configuration" once more. Then try to scan a retail barcode. Hope this helps.

Hi.....im using Eclipse Metrologic Instruments, model no.is MS5145 LS USB barcode scanner. now it is not working. whenever i tried to scan a barcode, it red light goes on continously. i also initialized it...

If the kit number : MK5145-71a48 that you referenced above is correct, your scanner is single ended keyboard wedge, not usb. You would need to order the correct cable : MX009-3ma7c from Honeywell to connect via usb.

We are using a Metrologic MS9520 (keyboard wedge) with QuickBooks. It won't scan barcodes provided by Quickbooks, even though it's supposed to be compatible. We've downloaded about every driver, config,...

What I would first is to bring the barcode scanner back to factory defaults. To do this you will need the manual that came with the scanner, on the first page is a bar code that say "enter/exit configuration mode" scan that first and you will hear three beeps, then scan the bar code for "recall defaults" and rescan the bar code to "enter/exit configuration mode" then retry using your scanner, if this does not work bring up "notepad" on your computer and try to scan any bar code form any retail item. This should scan, if it does net then it could be a defective scanner. See page 2 on the manual link

Scanner makes the right nosie and the ligth come on when scanning but does read the barcode

What type of cable are you using to connect to a host?

You will need to configure the scanner for that type of connection, for example, usb, keyboard wedge, serial etc.

If you have purchased it new, you should have the configuration barcodes on the instruction manual, otherwise you wil be able to download the full manual from metrologic website.

Locked Metrologic MS9520-37 (keyboard wedge) after unintentional programming

You programmed it for usb interface, but the scanner is keyboard wedge. Try pointing the scanner at the "recall defaults" barcode in the manual as you plug the scanner back in.
