I just bought them today they work fine. You do have to have a high speed 2.0 USB port to plug them into.

You have to plug in both the USB and audio cable into your PC.
It won't work if you don't have a USB 2.0 powered hub or port/slot.

How do i hook up my boston accoustics digital ba790 3-piece speakers/sub to my new dell inspiron 1545 laptop?

generally you hook it straight into the headphone jack some computers have a speaker setup category with the soundcard software. you can look under control panel to find out or not

Static only

If you have anything electronic move it away from the speakers it can cause interference. Then clean the plug for the speakers into the machine as well as the port. The way to do this is with electrical cleaner. Put some on the end of the jack and with the computer and speakers off spin it in the jack to clean it.
