TEAC floppy drive won't work with Vista Home Premium

Three months ago when I bought a new Compaq Presario, I bought a TEAC model FD-05PUW external floppy drive. It installed like a charm, worked perfectly. Yesterday I bought a new Gateway computer and it REFUSES to install or work. The doofuses at Gateway tell me I need to download a driver made especially for TEAC that will work with Vista Home Premium, but I can't find the download. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried WWW.Driverguide.com - Generally I have found all the drivers I need there. Else try the manufacturer's web site at www.teac.com

Hi,

The below is on the basis that the drive is visible in "Computer"...

This can be tow thing, one the drive is not receiving enough power from your USB port, try unplugging any addtional USB devices connected to the PC, if this doesn't work try a powered USB hub. Second the floppy disk is faulty or the drive itself is faulty.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Solution 1.
Try using the Installation CD or Utiltity CD that came with your drive to format it.

If theres a Utility CD then install it on your computer and try formating it from the utility application.

If the windows error messages still persist then try formating it with the windows default options or NTFS option.

3.5 inch movable shield on disk stuck in Teac 3.5 external drive

Take the drive from the enclosure, remove the top cover from the floopy drive, you should be able to GENTLY remove the floppy shield. Try not to stress the heads or wiring inside of drive. The floppy shield should come out the front.
