I recently upgraded from dell dimension 4100 to a used dell 4550 and transferred my officejet. I supposedly found the latest upgrades from hp and installed them and the latest driver. When I first start up the dell, the all-in-one works fine. After any printing from the pc to the printer, it disconnects. This is so frustrating. The only way I can get communications is to restart the computer. It always gives me an error when initializing the hp printer, but the communications still works. I thought it might be a bad cable, so replaced it. The problem is the same. Can this have something to do with the newer computer maybe having been on a network and has to be initialized each time a print has been done?

go to vendor website (DELL), support drivers and software and from there download BIOS upgrades and then reflash your BIOS...
WARNING: meddling with bios for amateurs is not recomended ! You must download and flash the right BIOS that is from your machine !
This (4th)link should answer all your questions. If you enter your service tag number Dell can help more You can also get help from where you buy the memory it's not that hard..I like the first link to find out what memory to buy. I like the second link for pricing. Please rate me mysleuth
Dell has a habit of using proprietary memory in their machines, if it isn't proprietary you can near guarantee that cheaper memory sticks will not be recognised.
Play safe and use the memory configurators at crucial.com and newegg.com
I bought two DDR2 1gig sticks at crucial yesterday for $50.00 for both with free shipping.
Well the two would not be compatible cause one is a P3 and the next is a P4 two completely different socket types so it wouldn't work but what u can do is buy a new motherboard if u want to upgrade to a P4...thats the only thing that is recommended from such a devices cause an upgrade wouldn't be possible to do .
