I have Intel D850MV motherboard with two 256 MB and two 128 MB RDRAMs, AGP video card with 128 MB on-board RAM, Samsung 40 GB HDD (ATA) and DVD R/RW drive. Upon plugging the computer to the power source it powers up before the power button is pressed. The power LED, HDD indicator LED and two LEDs on the motherboard light up. The cooling fans on the processor and inside SMPS start rotating. But there is no activity and no display on the monitor. There are no beeps. The power switch and the reset switch do not function. However if power switch is kept pressed the computer shuts down. The CPU and video card heat sink and hard disk become warm. The DVD LED lights up initially and drive door can be opened and closed. What could be the problem? I am located reasonably far from authorized service outlets. Any advice useful for my local service person will be most welcome.
Hi another test is to first disconect extras such printer etc, then remove all your Ram chips, replace these one at a time in slot one, test your boot up, if no luck remove that stick and try the next one and so on. This way you eliminate a faulty RAM stick. it also would not hurt to have a close look at the capacitors on your board. they are the round tube like things sticking up everywhere, if any are bulging or have evidence of leakage at the bottom then discard your board and start anew.

This is Old problem with this mother board, Check u r dummy ram stick, if its fixed properly, and if possible get bios upadates, Check u r smps, it should be above 400watts. this can probably solve your problem.

If you hear no beeps and the led lights, and the fans stay on after striping all the components from the motherboard except for the cpu, and power supply, you have either fried your motherboard or your cpu. Its impossible to tell without more testing. I'm sorry but you either need someone to test it or you can buy a new computer (thats what I did). For about USD $300-$400 you can get a brand new computer with 500mbs of ram, 120gb hard drive and a 3 ghz cpu. If you look around you can get an even better deal.
