Re:
There is no need for laser to be adjusted because you shows that somtime it says disc tray open when it isnt.
The PS2 has two tabs, one in the lower right above the power button (point A), and one in the upper left below the lid hinge (point C).
As long as both tabs are depressed, the PS2 will think the lid is closed.
Check FIG-1
1) Point A is externally accessible through the hole which a lid tab usually goes through.
2) Point C can only be easily accessed by opening the PStwo case.
3) Point B, the disc brake, can be ignored for all intensive purposes.
Check FIG-2
1) The far sensor tab is what we're interested in.
Check FIG-3
1) A closer look at the far sensor, which needs to be taped down or changed.
After checking all this thing your problem will be solved.
I would say that the laser needs to be adjusted. I am sure you can find someplace that can give you the precise way to adjust the laser, but other than that you may have to send it in to get repaired. I also know that if it is the slim it is hard to open up, because there is a connection that you may break if you open it wrong.

The above comment is complete and utter nonsence ! Here's what you do . Take the lid off , take off the top of the cd transport marked "CD 1 Low Jitter Compact Disc Transport" held on with 2 screws , rince it under warm water (its made of plastic) and refit . Its a build up of dust . Yoy will have to do this every 2-3 years . P.S Leave on "stand-by" because you will do more damage to the circuit boards by cutting the power continually .
Yes if they are leaking and you go to a car wash and then the temperature goes below freezing. It happened to me. Car started rocking all over the place because water got inside the strut and then froze solid overnight
I do hear that the controller card on that revision of PS3 can have failure issues... right now I'm waiting on a new bluray drive assembly for a CECHE01 because of, basically, the very same problem. This eBay seller(lives on the other side of the US from me) seems to know a good bit about these issues, and even provides his phone number for tech support. Search under his store for: CECHE01
the disk tray gets jamed alot u can pry the whole tray open with a screw driver or plyers the ps2 will still read the disk even if you pull the tray open it should realine itself and open and close you may pull off the front part of the tray but if you dont care about the apperence and just want it to work this solution works most of time
make sure your discs are clean then try again if same occurs put a cleaning disc into your console this will clean any unwanted dust particles if same occurs again you may have a problem with your laser that reads discs i had same problem

1) malaware bytes
2) dial a fix
3) superantispyware
You have a software problem. When I worked at Philips CEC before we closed I did a lot of those. I have the same unit also. But when we left I didn't take the upgrade disc so I'm stuck as well as you are. I just live with it untill something else happens then I'll deep six it.
1) Turn on machine
2) Open Tray
3) With tray still open hold the reset until the tray closes.
4) Tap the reset once.
if there is a format disc error, it says "Please insert a Playstation
or Playstation 2 format disc." It is accompanied by a sound similar to
the browser, but with a more tense noise. This is caused by a disc
being so badly scratched that it completely fails to recognise the
format, or if there is a problem with the laser.
Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system)1. Turn on the system without a disc inside.2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen.3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again.4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more.5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu.6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc.7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system.8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button.9.
In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen.
Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc.10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted.
