I have an older Sony Wega KV-36FV16 that will cut on with a great picture and then it will slowly fade to black in less than a minute. The sound is still good. The little 'stnd-by' light at the bottom blinks five times in a row. Should I try to get this TV repaired? Thanks

This is usually indicative of a power supply or power board failure inside the unit. Unfortunately there is no easy fix and you will need repairs. Please contact Sony to see how you can go about getting a repair scheduled, or check with a local TV repair shop in your area. Sony's number for this department is: 239-768-7547
a picture that blinks in & out every few seconds then it could be a bad tube. I know the older models the picture would flash in and out with snow etc. that was a tuner problem. haven't worked on very many sony wega's, maybe another tech here has a better ans.
The 6 blinks are a diagnostic code to indicate the problem circuit. I'm on the road at the moment, but will look up the code when I get to the shop. In the mean time, a few questions:
1) Does this occur all the time or just after or before a warmup period?
2) Have you noticed that this is occurring more frequently lately or did this just start?

For the last week my TV has been going to a black screen for 10 seconds or so then the picture returns. It has been continual. Last night it stopped going to black screen, but now the standby light flashes 5 consecutive times and the color went haywire. A lot of red and everything that is suppose to be black is green.
I did a soft and hard reset with no success. What's wrong and is it worth fixing? Bought new in November 2002.
I'm not quietly sure ...have you check the GK Board looks at B+(135 V) check all 5V regulated..check all High voltage capacitor if there's have low ESR or dry cap...
