RCA Opal M4202 won't turn on

My MP3 player won't turn on. It's fully charged and connected to the computer at the moment. When I try to upgrade the firmware (as the software that accompanies it says it's time to do) my computer immediately stops recognizing it and the upgrade doesn't work. When I try to turn it on, a white screen flashes briefly and then it's blank again. It stopped working one day at school. I had just stuck it into my purse (on with headphones attached) and I moved so my headphones pulled out. When I tried ot turn it back on, I got the flashing white screen.

OPAL won't charge.

Get the firmware upgrade for the player. If the pc will not recognize, force recognition:

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

If this does not work, I suggest that you reformat the player by using the WindowsTM format command on the unit. To reformat the memory

1. Right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window
2. Select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device.
3. Reinstall the firmware from http://download.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/opal_fwutility_v2.3.0.exe

Hi, you can try to upgrade the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=187), the firmware it's the second app listed.
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the USB port, then update the firmware.
