Sounds like CCD sensor problem ( it sits behind the lens inside your camera ) and it should be replaced . With this problem you do not need to replace the lens unit itself or any other parts. See if you can have it done free of charge because these sensors when properly manufactured should work fine for +- 15 years...obviously a faulty one went into your camera.

The camera is not anymore under warranty.
The blue color is same as at stopped play, but with logo CANON in addition.
I bought it in Czech Republic.
Bye,
Unfortunately it is not CCD problem - that one I already had and the sensor was replaced 1 year ago, for new one. Those time there was completely black window, switching to recording mode. Now it is blue, with Canon logo - I think someting stops the start-up sequence at time the camera is doing initiation tests.
It is simple to dismantle the camera? Is there any opreating manual for this?
