Yes, you will need an antenna to get live OTA TV. The Haier HL42XR1 has an ATSC (digital OTA) tuner and a NTSC (analog OTA) tuner. Your location and distance to the local transmitters will determine what type of antenna will be best. See antennaweb.org or tvfool.com and enter your address. TVfool.com gives a full list of all stations you may be able to receive depending on your antenna (indoor, outdoor, height, direction). If you share the signal from the antenna with another device, you may need an amplifier to maintain the signal strength. (Warning, when amplifiers fail, the signal can become worse than the unamplified signal. With digital TV, signals are either strong enough for the tuner to understand or a "no signal" message will appear.)
