Methods to reset your Windows XP password
There is nothing to worry if you forgot your Windows logon password or if your password expires. You can reset your Windows password by following instructions given below.<br /><br />You cannot reset password unless you have reset disk or can log on as an administrator. You may need to reinstall your operating system before using computer again. This is an essential safety measure setup by Microsoft Windows. Without this, anyone could change a password of anyone's computer. <br /><br />Reset Windows XP Home Edition Password<br /> <br />There are two methods to reset Windows XP Home Edition password<br /><br />First Method: <br /><br />To reset password you may need to log on as an administrator. Follow steps mentioned below to log on as an administrator <br /><br />a. Reboot the PC.<br />b. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE couple of times, and then type the name of the administrator user name or just type 'Administrator'.<br /><br />c. Type your administrator password in the password field, and click OK. If you do not know the password, leave it blank, and click OK. <br />d. Press Start button on the taskbar, and click Run.<br />e. Enter control user passwords 2, and click OK button.<br />f. Open Users tab, select the user account form the list that you want to reset the password for, and press Reset Password.<br />g. Select a new password and Enter it in the new password field and then type that password again in the confirm password field, and then press OK.<br />h. Reboot the PC, and try logging in to the computer. <br /><br />If your computer is a member of a domain then follow these steps:<br /><br />To log on to the window as an administrator: <br /><br />a. Reboot the PC, and press the F8 key during the boot until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.<br />b. Select the Safe Mode option, and press ENTER key.<br />c. Select Microsoft Windows XP edition, and press ENTER key. <br />d. Click your user name screen button, then click Administrator, and enter the administrator password in the password field.<br />e. Press ENTER key, and click Yes. <br /><br />To reset the Microsoft windows password:<br /><br />Click Start button on the taskbar below and then click Run.<br /><br />f. Enter control user passwords 2 in the text field, and click OK.<br />g. Pick the logon user name for which you want to alter the password.<br />h. Click on Change the Password, and enter a new log on password. <br />i. Press Change Password button.<br />j. Reboot the PC, and then log on to the windows. <br /><br />The Second Method: Using a password reset disk<br />To log on to the computer by using a password reset disk, follow the steps outlined below. <br /><br />Reset password for Windows XP Professional Edition<br /><br />1. Reboot your PC.<br />2. Click the user name, you'll see an error. <br />3. Click on the Use your password reset disk. The Password Reset Wizard window will open.<br />4. Click Next.<br />5. Insert the password reset disc into the CD/DVD drive, and click Next.<br />6. Type a new password and confirm the password in the required fields, then click on Next.<br />7. Click Finish, log on to the PC again. <br /><br />
