Giving error 271 after that asks for a password

You need to change your CMOS battery. i had the exact same problem and replaced the battery for US $5 and it works fine. You can get a battery from Ebay. The battery is located underneath the keyboard, the keyboard (on my R31) is held on by 2 screws underneath the laptop, in the centre (has two arrows pointing to them)

From what I could find out error 271 is a windows error mostly with windows 98. If you reinstall windows it should fixya. If you do not have a password for windows you have to reinstall windows. Please rate me mysleuth

you did it all wrong, did you ask at HP.com forum first
we are not HP ,and the rules here are complex.

why use this feature all, CIA does but who else. IDK
its very risky to use. and makes service way harder.
and more expensive.. why use it? (USA.GOV contract work?)
if yes why would you ask on fixya that. ask HP. always and directly.

Hi Prajeet
To reset your BIOS password you need to call the NEC to give you a reset code. Most Computer manufacturers like DELL, HP do have password reset tool from their end. you just need to call them to ask for a reset code but expect to answer all security questions before they gave you the reset code.

Where are you changing the password in Manager?

THe one you should be changing is under the "telephony" tab of the user. Erase what is there, and leave it blank, then when asked for the password, just press "#" on the phone.

When your Windows were installed, the engineer may have put the password to go to setup. Ask the said engineer regarding that password. If he gives you the password, revert to me.
