Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
Windows updates changes the registry and sometimes causes our "toys" to stop working. You can contact Microsoft and get instructions to re-write your registry(very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing) or, you can do what the pros do to avoid this very common problem....get a card reader!

After downloading is finished, unplug the USB cable and run the
software that you downloaded. The software installer will tell you when
to connect USB.
Your Lexmark printer software may have changed the Canon software so that Lexmark is default. You need to reinstall an updated driver again for the camera. There are other great software utilities here too.
http://www.canon.ca/english/index-customersupport.asp?pid=123 It should be a simple software problem. Only other solution is the USB cable or USB port fault.
