Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55XS955 55" Rear Projection HDTV Logo

Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55XS955 55" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Water damage This is not the exact model of my TV; I think mine is a bit older. No difference for the problem, I'm sure. In the process of remodeling our house, the TV was being stored in the kitchen for a few days. Short story: In unhooking our dishwasher, water sprayed throughout the kitchen, and some must have gotten into the TV (which I didn't realize until today -- two days later -- when I hooked it back up). Now, there is a triangular-shaped, approximately 3-inch-by-3-inch black translucent mark in the bottom right corner of my set. I am 99 percent sure it is water. The questions: Is it fixable? Can it be done by myself? If so, how? And approximately how much does it cost to either do myself or have someone else do it? Thanks so much in advance, Jim Derry New Orleans

Thanks Techman. I did not open it for two days after whatever the problem would have been. It is possible with dust, as we have been remodeling and the entire house is filled with wood dust from the floors.

The exact model number is KDF-E55A20. And I am not sure whether it is a projection set or a direct view LCD set.

Any help you give me is MORE than appreciated.

    Thanks, JD

If the set is for sure a projection TV set and not a direct view LCD TV set, you may have dirt, dust or a water mark on the lens or mirrors on the ind=side of the TV set. I really do not see how water could have gotten inside the TV set though on the lens assembly. This set is pretty tight when it comes to ex poser. Except for the back of the TV set. If water would have gotten on any of the printed circuit boards and you did not plug the set in for a while, and I hope you did not, Then the problem may be unrelated and could be a light engine problem. The only thing you can do is to open the TV set and check out the optics on the set. Send me the exact model number and maybe I will have the service manual, or close to it, so you can disassemble the TV set correctly. That will start off right away of saving you 30 bucks! Good Luck

Yes I found out, as I should have looked, ME BAD!!:>(, This is for sure an LCD projection TV set. It turns out I do also have the exact Sony service manual for this TV set. If you would like to start out by saving 35 bucks, leave an e-mail address and i will send you a copy so you can see how this sucka comes apart. You will however need to go to and get a copy of their free download software so you will be able to open this service manual. it is a very large file, and my e-mail provider will not let me send such large files.

This way you will be able to clean all the optics inside the TV set yourself and save a ton of cash!

Where can i buy a new remote mine got water damaged

It depends on the TV (make/model). Do you have an Input or Source button on the TV? Then you can use that button to change your input. A few models will offer an alternative option to change the source from the menu and have a Menu button on the TV. (Some TVs only let you change the source from the remote.)

Some remotes are available from the manufacturer's parts store (Sony, for example). has the exact original or a replacement remote for many brands. For other TVs, a universal remote may work. Look for a higher end universal remote with a Source or Input button. Then test all of the codes for your TV brand. (Some codes may only enable parts of the remote functions; make sure you find a code that lets this button work.) The remotes that can be programmed with a USB connection to a computer are the easiest to set up for this situation.

Please add a comment with the specific make and model of your TV; I'll try to find a source for an exact replacement remote.

(some really old TVs let you swap from AV1 to AV2 to channels by going up or down through all channels to reach a point where you could swap the inputs.)

The od light will flash and win the car sits for a little to cool down it will go off then win it worms back up it will come back on

Hey there. I am not sure if I can totally help you solve your problem. But I have pretty much the same exact problem with my Explorer, the only difference is that mine doesn't have to cool down. If I shut it off and then start it right away again it will be off, for a little while anyways. Anyways, I was actually doing research on this problem tonight and have come across a couple of things. I personally haven't gotten a chance to try it yet since mine is in the process of getting work done for a different problem. I have looked in a few different places and found that you really don't get the same answer from anyone. But what I have found is that the O/D light flashing is basically the check engine light for your transmission. I am unsure if your Check Engine Light is on at all. But if you are able to, hook a diagnostic up to your truck while the O/D light is flashing to see if you can pull a code from it. If you don't, then that would be a good thing. :) And if you do pull a code, then there could be something up with your tranny. A couple of other things that I have seen is changing the transmission filter and fluid and in a little bit worse case scenario, some people solved their O/D problem by replacing the auto trans solenoid pack. Whatever you choose to do, the sooner you get it checked out, the better. Mine has been doing this for 2 years now and I didn't really think too much of it. But I have found that in some cases when a tranny malfunction has been there for even just a week or more it can overwork and damage the Emissions control system. Well, I hope that this might help you out even a little bit. Good Luck!

My dishwasher does not take water after switching on. I know that it has an Aquastopper. But I dont know where is it to activate it. I have Siemens Lady 45 Dishwasher.

Probably the problem is to solve as easy as mine.

Did you ever consider that the error may be in front of the dishwasher? I didn't until I disassambled the washer and checked how it works. (As you also eventually tried to check the internet for a usermanual - you won't find maybe also none.)

This Lady's are build that easy, as every man would whish that all ladys work. ;)

You 've the round knob at the front of the dishwasher, this is some kind of "switching-clock".
This dishwasher (I don't know if model 45 is exactly the same, but it looks quite similar to mine) has no different washing programs, just ONE.

I always tried to "use" program "3", like the symbols suggested to me, that this would be for what I want to wash.
If you do so, the dishwasher starts in the middle of the washing-cycle and doesn't fill itself with water. It just wants to wash without water, as the water filling process starts in with the first step you can turn it to.

And what is also a bit "strange" for normal people, but maybe not for the real technical people. The "time-switching-device" rotates counter-clockwise. I thought it would do it clockwise, but never took the time to watch what it's doing. Mathematicaly speaking the clockwise direction is in technicians eyes the "wrong" direction, as it is mostly defined as the negative direction.

So, maybe you're the same "blind" than me. Maybe I'm just a bit stupid. ;)

Just ONE program, and counter-clockwise rotation of the "time-switching-device". Starting with the "1 program" fills the dishwasher with water, 2,3, and the following stuff don't do so (except the flushing symbol, but it doesn't wash, it just flushes the dishes.)

Long story short - mine works now like expected - without anything beeing broken.
