Question about Whirlpool GEW9250P Electric Dryer
My Whirlpool duet dryer (stacked on top of washer although detached) is plugged in and was working just fine. But now the light will turn on when you open the door, but the numbers do not appear on the top so I can't press any buttons to make it work. The guy who lives in the apartment below is a handyman and thinks I need a more flexible hose and a longer cord. He advised to get assistance first.
If your control panel display isn't working, a longer cord and more flexible hose won't fix it. You either have a control panel that has failed, or the wire harness that leads from the main control board to the control panel has an open or short, or has come loose. In addition, flexible dryer hoses (like the plastic ones) are not recommended because they tear easily, crimp or crush easily, and mice love to chew right through them to find a place to nest. It is highly recommended to stay with a semi-rigid duct hose, because they resist crushing, crimping and clogging. I hope this info helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Now...I didn't ask before, but did you say the dryer runs, but you just can't see the display, or did it stop completely? If the dryer quit running altogether, you may have a blown thermal fuse. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me so it makes it harder to diagnose correctly. I can't remember if the drum light will still come on with the thermal fuse blown or not. To keep it all simple follow these simple steps.
1. UNPLUG Dryer.
2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door. There should be a couple of 1/4 inch screws holding it on.
3. The thermal fuse will be a white plastic looking device mounted on top of the blower fan housing (this is where the lint filter inserts). If you are savvy with electronics and have a meter handy, take a resistance check. It should read approx. 0 ohms. If not, you need to replace it.
If the thermal fuse is good, then you probably have a more serious problem. This is where you need to remove the top panel of the dryer (if you have access to it) and check all your connections. Again, make sure the dryer is unplugged. To get the top of the dryer off you will need to remove the three screws holding the panel on in the rear of the machine. With the screws removed the panel should slide back then lift off. On the left hand side of the dryer is the main control board. There will be a small wire harness running from the front control panel to the main control board. This harness can come loose. If the harness is connected then you may have a fault with the control panel and/or the main control board. Let me know if any of this helps.
