Whirlpool refrigerator making noise

When the fan goes on in the freezer, it sounds as if a helicopter is in the freezer. A repairman said it might be ice build up on the fan. I have defrosted the freezer and this seems to work but now it seems to do it every day. how can I keep this from happening. I don't even keep food in it because I have to turn it off everyday.

YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE DEFROST CIRCUIT. NORMALLY BOTH THE DEFROST COMPONENTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOT OFTEN DOES THE DEFROST TIMER GIVE TROUBLE SO IF BOTH COMPONENTS ARE REPLACED AND ELEMENT IS GOOD BUT ICE STILL BUILDS UP THEN TIMER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL.

Why do the freezer coils on my Whirlpool stainless steel model GB2SHDXTSOO ice up?

I posted the problem with my refrigerator that started this thread. I had a repairman out to fix the refrigerator. He replaced the defrost thermostat. About a month later the coils iced up again. I called the repairman back. He said he wasn't sure what the problem was, but he would do some research and get back to me. Two weeks later I hadn't heard from him and he wouldn't return my calls. I finally called another repairman and he came out today. He said the Captain Board is bad. It has a relay sticking. He turned the refrigerator and freezer off, but the refrigerator still kept making noises. He said one of the noises was the damper valve opening and closing, but it shouldn't be because he had turned the refrigerator and freezer off. He listened little longer and asked me if I could hear the humming sound. He said that was the compressor, which shouldn't be making any sounds because everything was shut off. He said the Captain Board costs about $220. Does any of this sound logical

Freezer makes intermittent fan noise

one time i ran into this problem and found out the lady was putting hot things in the freezer creating alot of moisture. check your door seal also make sure its sealing if it had gaps you can heat it up with a hairdryer to streach it out.

Temp is rising and fridge is making noise

the problem lies with your evaporator fan motor, ice is forming underneath the fan blade, and as one customer told me, it sounds like a helicopter. when this fan stops altogether, no air flow to fresh food section is a result.
the cause could be the fan motor itself is bad, or if there is ice underneath the fan blade, the defrost drain is clogged with ice. after clearing the drain, i would highly suggest putting a defrost drain heater, to prevent ice build up in drain,, from obstructing fan blade. Whirlpool model ED5FHAXSLOO refrig 3 years old very noisy

If it is cooing fine, then the noise is probably your evaporator fan (the one inside your freezer). This can be cause by one of several things. The motor on this fan may be going bad, or, more likely, you may have a build up of ice around the blades that are touching the fan. This may be caused by a defrost circuit that has gone bad, or, the freezer may have been open alot lately and there is an excess of frost that hasn't melted away yet. If you can, manually defrost the freezer and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, it's probably the fan motor. If it does, and then comes back, it's probably the defrost circuit. Hope this helps!

Can you tell me where the sound is coming from? Like inside freezer or under refrigerator. Most sounds like you describe come from a fan motor and the fan blades are hitting something. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Hello the fault is most likely to be the defrost system building up frost around the fan and causing the bad sound to prove this just turn off freezer for about 10 hours to defrost and restart if noise has gone away then your defrost system is faulty

Freezer

I have a GSL25JFPH BS refrigerator by GE. It made the whirring sound, a repairman came out and told me that the fan motor needed replacing, price of $277. I sent him away, and after a few minutes on the internet, saw on this site that a new circuitboard (part# WR55X10656) should fix it. I found it on ebay for $83, and it took about fifteen minutes to install. No more whirring!!
