Question about Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi Notebook

Acer travelmate 8204WLMi charging problem

I have TravelMate 8204WLMi which has a charging problem. The original charger was defective from the factory. Being in Egypt at the time, I had to purchase a universal charger from RadioShack to get it going, and that worked for about a year. At some point I believe the polarity of the plug got reversed (it's a removable plug on the charger) and smoked the charging circuit in the laptop. Works fine running off the charger, but neither of two batteries will charge - one of which is brand new. Where can I get expidited service on this unit, as Acer does not provide it? I will be returning to the USA from Shanghai in a few days and would love to have it repaired while I am in the USA, but I use this constantly in my work and need it back as quickly as possible. It is always recomm. that you use original adpter that comes with laptop, because universal adpter comes with variable range of volatge and lower amp. it can damaged your notebook mainbaord and lcd screen , you can call Acer Customer Service and order new adpter and if your unit still under warranty they may send new replacement adpter free.

The only repair centres are in uk that give you the turn your laptop arround in the time you need if you type in laptop repair centres in search browser and you get all repair centres listed. I've hunted for 20-30 mins on repairs to laptops in USA but not much available on your laptop model. good luck on finding a service centre for your laptop

I have an acer 8371 not charging

it sounds like one of three things:

1. Battery itself no longer functions
2. Laptop Charger has inadequate amperage
3. The motherboard is defective (most likely).

If you have another battery, or a friend with the same battery, you can try that first (and someone else's laptop charger).

If the problem is the motherboard, you can try to have it repaired but I don't trust many companies to do this kind of work. I outsource my motherboard jobs to a company called Laptop Rescue (http://www.laptoprescue.com/laptop-repair-2/). Coincidentally, they also sell laptop chargers in case that's the problem. Hopefully it's just a charger or battery issue and not a motherboard.

If you can confirm your laptop charger is dead, just purchase a new one:

I have a TravelMate 8204WLMi. I want it boot off CD - but cannot enter bios. At the Acer screen I press F2 , it goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor. I wanted to reload - so eventually I...
