Where do i get the maintance manual to grease up keep my mixer

The planetary gear housing is filled with grease. Seeing oil come out would indicate that grease has started to or has completely broken down. Take the planetary apart (One nut and a clip), clean out the old grease and liberally repack with a food grade grease something like PTFE Super Lube .

It sounds like the Planetary Gear assy. has gear lubricant leaking into it from the gear case above it. This may not be that unusual so there may be 2 possibilities or a combination of both. The Gear Case is directly above the Planetary Gear assy. It is filled (sort of) with a food grade (assuming...I hope) grease that is necessary to keep things lubed. There are fiber washers and possibly an o-ring in the shaft assembly which should keep the grease from migrating toward your food. The Planetary Gear assy. is the part that rotates around on the business end of the mixer. It has a bronze bearing that is intended to run without lubrication. However it is a wear point and if worn sufficiently, could allow escape lubricant from the gear case above to drip into your mix. The Kitchen Aid Service Manual is a good source of info. your oil leaking is cause by a bad gasket or the gasket isn't seated properly. you can purchase this gasket but replacing it does require knowledge of the unit. part number for the gasket is 4162324. the grease can be purchased locally at any car parts dealer. generally a thicker paste type grease is used inside these units, but the original part number for the grease is 4160588 and comes in a container with enough grease for 5-8 mixers.hope this helps

Hi Maureen. Your K45SS needs to be serviced. The old grease and the oil that has separated from the grease must be removed and the unit cleaned. If you, or someone you know, are up to the task, go to mendingshed.com and download the Kitchenaid Service Manual. This very thorough manual will assist you with the task at hand and with future repairs.

The replacement grease I recommend is Chevron FM ALC EP-2. This is a "Food Grade" grease which is non-toxic should some drip into your mixer bowl at a later date. The planetary gearing should also be removed, cleaned and regreased.

Go to kitchenaid.com, click on Customer Care and click on the Manuals button. In the search window, enter your model number thusly, k45sswh and download the parts drawings for your mixer. These drawings will give you an "exploded view" of your mixer and will come in handy if you need to order parts. Mending Shed also sells replacement parts.

Once your mixer is back in service, run the unit for a couple of minutes every week, this will help keep the oil suspended in the grease and extend the life of the grease.

Goto www.mendingshed.com and locate the free Kitchenaid Service manual. This manual contains all of the info needed to service your mixer.

Finally, your mixer uses grease for lubrication. When you see oil dripping, it means that your mixer needs to be re-greased as the oil is separating from the grease base. I recommend Chevron FM ALC EP-2, this is a food grade grease that is non-toxic should you get some of it's oil in the mixing bowl at a later date. Remove the old oil and grease remnants from the mixer, including the planetary unit. You can remove the planetary by tapping the tapered pin out of the shaft. Clean and re-grease. After you've completed these tasks, run the mixer for a couple of minutes every week to keep the oil in suspension. This will extend the life of the grease.

Hi Tim. Don't try to pour anything into the side openings, these openings are for the electrical brushes. You didn't state what model you have so my help is limited. Goto www.kitchenaid.com and click on the customer care tab. Enter your mixer's model# into the search window. Look for a parts catalog for your mixer. If there is one, download it.

The transmission housing and Planetary assembly will have to be removed to accomplish this. It's a messy, but necessary task. Hi. Hobart no longer makes or sells parts for the C-100 model. It's considered obsolete.

Your best bet is to locate a used restaurant equipment supply place and ask around. Sometimes these places keep old mixers for parts. Another option is to do a search on eBay, as there are several sellers that deal in obsolete parts. Failing that, a local electrician may be able to fabricate a new one or adapt some some other type of switch.

With a unit as old as this, it's important to maintain a good re-greasing schedule (once every five years), and your mixer will keep on delivering the goods for years to come.

Go to an auto parts place and buy some Lubriplate grease and use this on the assembly.
