IF you take out the dispenser tray you till find the cord to the door latch to release the door lock. You cannot get the door latch assembly any longer and it is one plastic cog that is the issue. However given the age of that machine and the fact that parts are not in great supply any longer, it would be a good idea to replace the whole unit.
The motor which is pulling or pushing lock mechanism is failing or sockets/wiring harness is broken or oxidized. You need to remove inner door panel and check for connectors and motor. When removing door panel be gently so that y ou wont be breaking clips holding panel. Remember that there can be hidden screws under somwthing else(like door handle).
your going to have to get that panel off with out opening the door.
remove screws ffrom door panel and try to pull up from bottom. put the passenger seat all the way back. be careful and take your time it can be done
Hyundai sonata have small spring about 3 cms long which corrodes and brakes. When this happens you cannot open the front two doors. you have to unfortunately cut a hole in the door trim and open the door by realeasing the latch with hand and then replace the spring.
I recently had the same problem with my 2001 Astro.
I don't know how to get the door/hatch to open. Am looking for suggestions on how to at least get the window part to open so I can replace the part that has failed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
