up until 5am my phone was working perfectly fine..however, when i woke
up the next morning the phone was in FTM mode and was unable to receive
or make calls. later on in the day, the FTM mode display was replaced
by a "service required" display and the same problems persisted

It means you need to take your phone in to get it serviced, i.e. repaired. You can get it fixed by taking it in for service

Won't send or recieve data

It must show GPRS, EDGE, 3G or 1xEVS on the top. These are the various data services. If it shows GSM, there may be an issue with the device. You can try to update the OS from blackberry.com or your service provider.

Phone messed up

It is better for you to purchase a new mobile , most phones that have been wet most times even after service always give problems still......replacing parts will be to expensive.
