I've used my Samson G track Mic on my older computer, which ran XP, but when I attempt to use it on my newer computer with Vista I don't get any sound pickup. The drivers are installed, the computer recognizes that it is connected and I am getting playback of normal computer audio through headphones, but the mic does not show that sound is being picked up. I've gone to the sound control panel and attempted everything. I've even attempted to set up the Mic with speech recognition software on vista, but there is no sound being picked up by the mic to finish configuration. It has worked before, but it is no longer picking up sound now, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

If the LED doesn't light when you plug it in, and it doesn't show up in Device Manager ("USB Composite Device" or "USB Audio Device"), then the mic must be defective. Contact Samson for a replacement.

Go into Play control on your computer. Click on options then properties. Look at your settings for playback and recording. Check play control and your source eg. microphone. To reach this double click on the speaker icon in your toolbar or you can find it under sounds and devices in your control panel.

SOURCE: Doesn't pick-up sound
These mics are designed to only pick up sound near the cardioid, for one to prevent feedback, and two to reduce any other noises but your voice. Most singers, myself included, sing with their top lip on the mic or very close to it. If nothing else, turn up the gain on your mixer. If you don't have one, get one. Look man just use the input as a way for your pre-amp's to plug in.... you don't want any of those built in guitar effects anyways... You just need a good multi pedal.. There are many good recording Pre-amps out there that work great and are fully adjustable for easy recording.. You can do what you want but, I think you will like the sound of pre-amp effects pedals in your computer set up....
Thats just a tip
