I cannot get the Dell PowerEdge 840 to recongize and of my HDD in the Raid array.. Trying to install the OS but tells my on HDD is detected

Then you need to get into the BIOS of the PERC RAID controller and inspect the state of the physical/logical volumes. Reboot the machine and watch for the prompt after the PERC5/6 RAID controller loads it's BIOS.

Considering this a null issue given the age, though...

Why red light blinking on dell poweredge 840

Hello,

Check your power supply or the power supply source (outlet or UPS unit) as well as the power cord. Your system power source is not at the correct amp, voltage and may need replacing.

Good Luck.

What audio driver to i need for my dell poweredge 600sc server running windows server 2003? Is there a direct link? I search and have not found anything.

dell poweredge servers are not needed for sound. DELL support will not support any sound cards or care anything about your audio issues. You will not find audio drivers because again, a server's purpose has nothing to do with audio.

My Dell PowerEdge 840 will not allow me to install Windows 2000 Server software. Evidently, the 840's graphics card does not contain the drivers for Windows 2000 Server. Is there a solution?

I am not sure where you got your information but I just checked Dell's website and they have Windows 2000 drivers for your server which include the video driver.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WNT5&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PWE_P4_840&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en&TabIndex=)

If you are still having a problem then you should call Dell support. Every Dell server has lifetime free phone support.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Will only power up for 5 to 10 seconds and then shuts off. I have to unplug the power cord to repeat.

It sounds like an overheating problem. The newer cpu's have a thermal shutdown sensor that automatically shuts down system if it senses a temp that is too high. Common solution would be to check your cpu/ chassis fan and see if they are working. If not replace.

Constant beep on poweredge 840 appears to work alright

Hi

Besides standard beeps codes indicating Processor, CPU, Memory or Systemboard failures,
Dell PERC (PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller) or SAS Controllers (Serial Attached SCSI) generate beeps to alert failures on the RAID sub-system.

From your description of the issues (when the beeps start), i suggest you check PERC or SAS setup. If you have Dell OpenManage Server Administrator installed, you can log-in and check for more information. Additionally, on the next reboot check the PERC/SAS/CERC boot up for any messages. You may also access the PERC (Ctrl+M), SAS (Ctrl+R) CERC (Ctrl+A) Management Menu for specific failures and attempt a rebuild (assuming you have a redundant RAID Volume).

You can also speak with Dell Support and raise a warranty call if the system has warranty.

Note: PowerEdge 840 would ship with PERC or SAS Controller. PowerEdge 700 will ship with PERC or CERC.
