Every time I take the AC cable out the LSD display dims when running on battery power. Is there anything I can do to solve this?
When you turn your laptop on press F2 to go to the system settings Continue to press alt+p till you get to a page about battery usage then turn everything up to max. hope this helps

My IBM Thinkpad has separate user configurable settings for power - one when connected to AC and the other when on battery power. In order to conserve battery power, the LCD is dimmed and the CUP speed is reduced among other things. These can be changed by the user to behave similar to when connected to AC power with a resulting shorter battery life. Check your laptop's user manual to see if they are doing something similar.

According to craig13 if you are not satisfied with the power settings then you can check your battery status may be it is charging 100% ok. but in onload mode it is not supplying the sufficient current for your notebook according to it's requirement. so try it by replacing the battery. otherwise in hardware section there might be some kind of power consumption is more. and suppose if so first off all you check hard disk.

Probably not. My HP does the same thing but it is not that a noticeable change. If yours is dimming severely, look at the power settings and boost the contrast up.
