Panasonic AG-DV2000 Mini DV VCR works great with miniDV tapes but for some odd reason I cannot get large DV tapes to play without extreme banding and drop outs. I have brought it into my local video tech and he cleaned the heads and I still had the same result. I'm getting frustrated that no one can fix it b/c I just bought it off of ebay pretty recently and nowadays all of my work is on DV tapes, not miniDV. I know its not the tapes I'm using either b/c they play fine in the same exact machine I have at another office! Anyone who can help will be blessed with good karma b/c I'm near the end of my rope. I had seen someone who had a similar problem and was selling their AG-DV2000 for much much much less than what I had bought it for and mentioned it would need a new DV sensor or something like that. Does anyone have a solution????
The "dv sensor"is actually a mechanical lever built into the cassette housing that moves the reel tables to match the reel spacing on mini or full-size DV tapes. check to see if this assembly is free to move. if it binds up, the reel tables may not move as far as they need to, and can cause problems similar to the one you're seeing. to inspect the mechanism, you need to remove the cassette housing. if you don't have a service manual, get a tech to help -- it's a delicate procedure for the inexperienced.
