Laser unit NAD 5100 Monitor Series

Hello, My NAD 5100 Monitor Series CD player just broke down. The laser unit has gone. Anyone out there who can tell me if these units are still available, and if so, where and at what price? Until now I was very happy with the qualities of this excellent CD player, bright but never sharp, very good definition. In combination with my Quad 44/405-II worth every penny (and more). thanks in advance, Maarten

Try to visit my site, i also have a lot of free schematic for nad, denon, quad and mora. Also repair notes for amplifiers, tech videos, diy schematics and more.. Also at this moment i am working on a new 'nad cd service movie) including cleaning, maintenance, repair and more on nad 522, 501, 502 c521 and more see you best regards michael miguelovitch http://www.miguelovitch.dk

Hi, I have a NAD C541i cd player when i turn it on i get three blue line on the display, i open the draw and insert a CD disc but the blue lines stay on the display and the disc don't play. can you...

The blue lines you mention should flash when trying to find
the 'Table of Contents' of your CD, even if a CD isn't loaded.
If when a CD is loaded and these lines flash for a while without
any CD info e.g track no. / disc length then it's more likely that a problem has occurred with the laser.
Various NAD CD players use the Sony KSS-213 Laser unit
and for some reason particularly with NAD CD players, they tend
to drift out of calibration over time so what i usually do when i come across this is very finely adjust the pot trim on the laser itself and testing a CD between adjustments.

Hi Skipping problem with a NAD C545BEE, plays OK for 1 minute, then skips randomly wthin the track, then will skip to different tracks on the CD, like fast forwarding. No problems with the disc themselves

hi
There is a diode in the power supply which gives dc supply to the laser focusing coil driver ic . if the diode get faulty this problem can occur. Just replace all the rectifier diodes in the power supply stage. Its better than searching for the exact one. then check the cd player is it skips the tracks. if then also its skips the tracks then you have to change the laser pickup unit.

NAD CD PLAYER NOT RECOGNISING DISCS

Try this:
1) Disconnect the powercord from the plug!!
2) Remove the cover
3) Reconnect the powercord, turn on the power and press eject.
4) Turn of the power - beware, there is still power on the trafo!!
5) Now you have to carefully clean the laser (round glas-like item in the middle of the drawer) with a cotton swab filled with isopropyl alkohol.
6) Then wait at least 1 minute.
7) Turn the power on again and try to play a cd. If it works as it should then you have succesfully repaired your cd-player :-) Otherwise you may try again.
8) Now disconnect the powercord and replace the cover.

If this doesn't help I'm affraid you have to turn it in to your local shop for further invistigation and repair...

Good luck :-)

Will only play cd not dvds. lens turns red . plays dvd then stops by itself but no problem with cds

HELLO
This sounds very much like a laser problem. ALL DVD players have a dual laser (one for CD other for DVD). It is very likely that the DVD laser has gone defective that is why you can only play CD's.
Another thing you can try is to clean the laser lens using isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud - laser may be dirty/dusty as this can cause problems too.
If after cleaning the lens you can still only play CD's, then the laser will be defective. This will be an expensive repair job therefore it's cheaper to buy another unit.
ALL THE BEST (:-)

NAD 5100 monitor wont eject

Hi ntravers9

You could fix this yourself, in saying this of course, you will need to also source a new belt for the player ( I can help you there too) That is probably what is preventing the Cd tray from opening. If you where to remove the lid, and give the transport a little assistance in the direction that things initially start moving, then you can be sure that the mechanism is not damaged in any way, and that a lazy belt is the source of you problem.

Do this if you are into fixing it yourself, to see for sure what is happening and we can go from there.

NAD C541i CD Player plays but the sound cuts out for an instant every 10-20 secs. It eventually goes away, but it is annoying when you first play a disc. Any help appreciated.

hi, i've had a few nad C541i's and not so long since the sound on one of them cut out for milliseconds and on some occasions the sound would make the noise very much like a severely scratched vinyl record, i thought it was a faulty laser so i tried another KSS-213C laser out of a scrap kenwood and the fault persisted. to cut a long story short, i took the main PCB out and there were various dry joints. once these were resoldered i was blessed with a fully functioning player. hope this helps?

CD PLayer won't play CD's

Hi First of all, you must find all the screws for the top cover and remove it. Make sure the unit is not plugged in! Then, making sure that you are not touching anything inside the unit, plug it back in,put a Cd in the drawer, and watch what happens. If the drawer closes, but you can still hear a motor running, then it is a belt drive unit, and the belt is slipping, if that part is ok, listen carefully for a ticking noise, which is the laser lense going up and down trying to focus on the CD, if the disk starts to spin then the mech has closed properly, and the unit is trying to find the directory. If the unit then spins the disk for a while then ejects it, then the laser is dirty or faulty. I would suggest getting it cleaned at a shop if the lense appears dirty. ***Never look straight down at the laser lense if it is exposed on your model of CD player, it is a class 3 laser, and you will be doing some harmful home laser surgery to yourself!!!*** Hope this helps! Good Luck! P.S. When following the steps above, if you hear the ticking of the lense moving up and down, but the disk does not spin, gently spin it clockwise with your finger, if it starts to play, or finds the directory, then the spin motor is bad.
