The washer apparently stopped mid-cycle (it may have been off-balance), and now the lid is locked shut and it has no power at all ... the circuit appears to be fine and the outlet works for another small appliance I tested. Any ideas for what may be going on or how to remedy the problem?
Also, since Sears repair is unable to come for two weeks, any ideas for manually opening the lid to remove the clothing?

Re: Kenmore Oasis - Lid Locked Shut and No Power
Take your outlet pipe and place into a bucket so that it is low to the ground if water comes out then it could be that your pump is faulty when the water has all drained away the pressure switch will reset itself and the lid will now open if no water comes out un-clamp your outlet pipe from your pump if then water comes out then your pipe will be blocked m8

Unplug it and wait a minute or two, the lid will release. Take out the clothes, plug it back in, put it in spin and close the lid. If it goes back to work, good. If not, check Repairclinic.com for repair clues.
this washer has a lid switch problem...or possible main board failure, but lid does concentrate on the lid safety switch. If you remember when you open the lid it stops..well, its a safety feature and prevents tub from spinning with lid open...this one is more difficult to service if your not use to working on washers...try unplugging machine and leaving off for awhile...does the door lock? check switch for lid fault
Unplug the washer first. How to open the service lid. Latches are approx 4" in from corners in front (where the little crack is below the lid) insert a putty knife, pushing in on the latches and pull up as it gives. Hold onto the side you've released and pop the oter side and lift up.
Now you will be able to see the lid lock; center front from underneath. Use a 1/4" nutdriver and remove the latch.
Now as far as I know, pn:8563937 was replaced with: W10059230 Bought mine from www.midwestapplianceparts.com.
Install is simple; 3 screws (1/4") behind the back panel will allow you to access the plug. Just feed the old one out and the new one in.
That is why the washer won't start. Replace the lid lock. It is there to stop anyone from putting their hands inside of washer when it ia agitating, by stopping power to the motor.DO NOT try ANY attempts to mmake it work!!!! Injury may result
lid flashes when the following conditions occur:
➔ User presses START with lid open.
➔ User presses START after 2 consecutive machine cycles
without opening lid.
➔ The machine/motor control cannot detect the lid switch
opening and closing properly.
use a screwdriver in the crevice beneath the lid. Approx 4 inches from each side you will see a 1" silver piece of metal, push the tab towards the back of the machine. Once you get one side loose place something such as a screwdriver to keep it unlatched until you get the other side loose. The top should come open. And there is also a service book inside your washing machine, I fixed mine myself. Look at my other postings. Good luck!!
