I got a used sansa e260 mp3 and my computer won't accept it?

Yeah, my boyfriend gave me his and it worked perfectly on his computer. I have it now...and the cd. I installed the media converter so i'm guessing that's the only software i got to download from the cd. the problem when the mp3 is connected to my computer, it won't appear in the "my computer" file, so i can delete songs or videos, etc. You know the "Found New Hardware Wizard"? it comes out everytime i connect the device, so i know i got to install it but when i'm going through the process, an error appears saying that "This Device Cannot Start." I've checked everything, and it's alright, but i still don't know what the problem is.

My computer program is "Windows XP"
and it can access the mp3 by using mtp mode (only).

thanks
please help

Try connecting it to another computer and see if it will recognize it as sansa or removable drive. if it does then download the sansa update software and install it. Make sure you disconnect the sansa and connect it when asked. This will update your sansa and add the Usb Mode. Try to connect it to your computer at home it should recognize.... link for update software (http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/Installer/1082/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe) download to a flash drive much easier

SOURCE: Computer will not regognize Sansa e260 at all

Maybe the problem is not the player or what you are downloading but the program you are using to get the music on your player. I had a similar problem and I just had to use a different program to load my music.

Hi Janworks4u. Question for you... Did your mp3 work fine with WMP 10? I ask because WMP 11 is known for causing problems w/mp3 players. You can try reverting to WMP 10 to see if that fixes your problem. To do this:

click START, click on CONTROL PANEL, ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS (look at the top center of the Add or Remove Programs box that pops up for a little square you can click on that says "show updates." Click that box and then scroll down to WMP 11. Click to change/remove. A box will pop up confirming that you will revert to WMP 10. NOTE THIS WILL NOTE DELETE ANYTHING FROM YOUR COMPUTER! All of your music that is in WMP 11 will still be there in WMP 10!

Now you can try to load your songs back on through WMP 10 and hopefully it'll work for you. Good luck!

SOURCE: Sansa e260 will not connect to computer

Unplug the Sansa from the computer. Turn it off. Hold in the REC button. Reconnect the Sansa to the computer while holding in the REC button. After 10-15 seconds of continuing to hold in the REC button, a window should pop up saying "Found New Hardware Wizard." Complete the Wizard.

Sansa e260 wont be detected by computer

I assume that you are running an older version of Windows from XP/2000. If you can get on the internet, go to Sansa's site and download the driver from there. Here is a link http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/SMC

My mp3 player won't recognize the memory card.

First, make sure it's a microSD card; the e260 won't work with microSDHC cards.
Then use a card reader to copy music tracks to a "MUSIC" folder on the card. Install the card into the e260 and you will see the additional music.

Sansa e260

The e260 works with microSD cards. Your 4GB card is actually a microSDHC card and won't work in the Sansa.
With a microSD card, simply put music tracks into a folder called "MUSIC". When the card is installed, the Sansa will see the additional tracks.
