This seems like to lens extending motor has gone. If it is out of warranty and the cost of a repair is expensive as you have discovered You will have great fun taking it to bits But you will not be able to repair it. So -new camera- eventually

E24

Canon E24 error means that there is a loose connection inside the camera, or even a broken (cracked) flexible pcb.

Open the camera up and check all pcb connections, especially to the LCD and to the lens assembly. With the camera open, power it up and wiggle each connector in turn to see the effect, but make absolutely sure not to touch any of the flash circuitry as it can give you a shock and a burn (absolutely do not do this at all if you have a pacemaker fitted). You'll need to have a set of jewellers' screwdrivers and an anti-static wrist strap (properly earthed) whilst doing this. If I've lost you already, then it's not a DIY repair.

I cannot be more specific as you spent no time at all to provide exact model details, nor even a proper question, sorry.

When turing on my Canon SX100IS camera it opens the lense then closes and gives me an E24 error. I am able to replay phones on my SD Card but not take new pictures since the lense retracts

Hi,
you get this error message E24 because your lens is slightly out of alignment. Cycling the camera on/off several times will serve to help the lens to work it's way back in alignment.
Even though your battery may be fully charged, as a Lithium Ion battery ages, it begins to lose capacity so you don't have enough power to take any still . Try a different battery.
Clean the battery contacts with a pencil eraser. Sometimes, a dirty battery contact can prevent the battery from providing all the current the camera needs.

Hope this helps.

Canon camera when turned on, lens will not

Hi

What you are seeing is a generic error message, starting your camera again won't do anything unfortunately.

You need to replace the lens, we have your lens repair available on our site for about $75! If we can help please let us know.

When I open the lens... A menu page comes up...

If you're seeing black or distorted images both on the LCD and on the recorded pictures, then this might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/canon-digital-cameras-showing-black.html

Error code

I found the answer on another site and was able to fix my camera myself. E24 means your LCD display has come unplugged. What happens if you rotate the screen too much you tighten up the wire and it pulls the connection out of its socket. There ar 4 screws on hedispla, unscrew ad take th back off the screen. Unwind the screen until the wires loosen up. Replug in the loose connector. Resecure the back

Can't take pictures

Defective mechanism,  a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.
