It's not just fading to black because of the power settings. It's continually (intervals of aprox 2-20 sec) fading to black and immediatly fading back, I've already tried to adjust the power settings, the asus ussually starts when it's been on for a while. It doesn't feel like it's overheated though. Hope someone knows. :)

The red hue is usually an indication of the CCFL tube (backlight bulb) going bad. These can usually be bought for under $20 but disassembly of the LCD module to replace them can be quite a pain. Fortunately there are are quite a few places that you can send the panel to and have it repaired for around $100.

I just went through all this myself. First I had the inverter replaced ($200) and it worked great for a week, then the screen went out again. It turned out that the LCD needed replaced ($200 more, labor comped from the first no-fix). There's a problem with the Toshiba LCDs that makes them burn out sooner than other brands. Since the replaced screen, no problems (2 months). Sucks, I know.

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time
I hope this helps.

It sounds like defective LCD backlight. Bring your laptop to an authorized repair shop.
