That dust is from the beater shaft pin that is wearing down the attachment.you can use mineral oil to clean the attachment.this problem will continue to happen until you replace the pin and attachment.

The dough hook on my KitchenAid Classic no longer fits on the shaft.

Get a round file and gently rasp it out, you are trying to remove the build up in the hole not rasp the metal away. Flour dust gets in the hole and embeds itself into the soft metal of the dough hook. Also clean the shaft if you can see any dark patches on it. The shaft is good quality steel so you can use fine sandpaper on it without really removing any metal. It's not uncommon for a paddle or a hook to become frozen onto the shaft from flour dust getting in there while mixing. The first time I encountered it I had trouble convincing myself the flour was the problem, I've seen enough of them now to know that's what it is.

It just stopped during use and seems completely dead!

Replace the fuse located below the plug inlet on the mixer,(it is a 6.3A Fuse, 250V 5x20MM fuse from Radioshack) you have to remove the outer panel to access it. I did the same thing, it stopped working while I was mixing dough for bread, replaced it, good as new.

We was mixing doug for tamales and quit working i unplug it for 30 min and plugit again and didnt work

You could have actually overtaxed the motor. Try plugging it in at a different plug. if it still won't work you may have caused the motor to burn out. You may want to contact the manufadturer .

I have a Sunshine Yellow Kitchenaid professional 6, 525 watts with three mixing attachments, and pouring shield, in mint condition, just had it in the repair shop to replace the plastic seal (not sure if...

Hi Lisa. Your mixer's plastic transmission housing failed when you were mixing bread dough or cookie dough. When this cheap plastic part fails, it can cause internal damage to the worm gear shaft, worm gear bearings and their seats as well as other internal damage. This kind of damage is not easily found, as the grease inside the transmission must be removed and parts cleaned to fully acertain damage. If the trans. housing was the only part replaced, I would view the repair as only partial.

If the mixer now runs well, without any internal noises during operation, consider yourself fortunate. You could advertise that you have upgraded the mixer (metal housing). A price between $200.00 to $250.00 would be in the ballpark.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

Black residue on mixing attachments

Aluminum tends to oxide when its washed under harsh dishwasher detergents. I use Palmolive oxy dish soap (blue bottle) just by trial and error. Put some on a sponge/ (non-metal) scouring pad, and scrub the attachment, it will take off the majority of the gunk that's rubbing off and after a few times of cleaning it, it'll get back to its aluminum luster. Easy remedy to clean your dough hook -- or any other aluminum item.
