Dvdrw drives Doesn't read

Plus you cleaned it?

Then suggest the Optical Drive is bad. (CD/DVD drive)

They are a mechanical device, and as such have a 'Life-Cycle'.
It is deemed in so many hours of usage.

Would appear yours has reached it's last cycle..........

Try to change optical dvd drive.

Did it work in the past? Are you sure your system can write DvD's? Click Start/My Computer and look at the description of the DvD Drive. Does it say DvD-RW or DvDrw which means it can write a DvD? Look on the side of the laptop at the dvd drive, does it say DvDrw or DvD-RW or DvD Rewritable? If so that means it is capable of writing Dvd's.

If it says just DvD or DvD Rom that means it can only read dvd's.

Make sure the dvd you put in the drive is blank. I've been on many service calls where they said the dvd was not writing and found out that the media was not blank.

OK, first of all you said you put a blank DvD in the drive. Make sure your dell has a DvD writer. Look on the drawer of the drive and see does it say DvDrw or DvDROM. It has to say Rw for rewritable and not ROM for Read Only Media. Maybe you have a Combo Drive that is DvDrom and CDrw which means it will read both DvD's and Cd's but in can only Write CD's.

If in fact you do have a DvD writer make sure you're not trying to put a Blue Ray disc in the drive.

Lastly, remove the DvD from the drive. Click Start/My Computer. Notice what it brings up as to your DvD Drive. Does it Say DvDrw or just plain ole DvD. DvD means it will only read a DvD.

Try another DVD-RW drive because it sounds like the laser is going bad. Burning requires alot of power from the laser. Playing DVD or playing cd's doesn't require much so thats why it would play those.

Your unit is defective . Take it back to the dealer's with the purchase ticket .

Make sure you have an updated driver then restart your computer. If that doesn't work, comment back.

It may the problem of lense inside DVDRW which helps to read the cd if the lense get spoilt the DVDRW wont detect burnt discs

I just saw the date on this message and realize that it was awhile ago. I assume that you have dealt with it by now... So for others who are trying to fix their DVD player:

I have a DMR-EZ485V DVD player and just started getting the error message "No Read." I couldn't find an answer on the internet and finally called Panasonic's customer service, (there is no charge 1.800.211.7262). Since it says "No Read" to everything--store-bought DVDs, burned DVDs, CDs; AND when there is nothing in there (it acts like it is trying to read when the tray is empty), the customer service rep thinks that I am having a lens issue. It either needs to be cleaned (can pick-up a product at Best Buy or Radio Shack) or, if that doesn't work, the lens needs to be replaced.
