I've had this tv for about 8 years now. Recently, the TV has been having trouble keeping focus. Text on the screen will move back and forth from being blurry to non blurry. This does not appear to be a convergence problem, and there is no haloing/ghosting. There are also not any blue/red outlines. The "blurry" effect is with any color. The Image is simply blurring. Additionally, the screen seems to flicker.
When the screen refreshes do to a new "screen" coming on the TV, this seems to force the TV to refocus and the picture will be ok for a while before unfocusing again. Thoughts?

A full service manual is available online---I will presume you tried to unplug it for a while and then power back to see if will reset itself.
This set has three hidden menus---one is the OPTION menu--in that menu with the Mitsubishi remote you can do a hard reset of the entire set= sets all back to factory except convergence adjustments which are stored in another area--cures all kinds of oddball issues.
I can give you a link to the manual and the page numbers for the OPTION menu.
Note: the other two hidden menus are Convergence and adjustment--do not go into adjustment menu as one wrong move and poof!
This problem is most likely caused by damage in the convergence output amp IC's; this model uses STK392-040. Fairly common for various fuses that protect the DC supplies for these amp IC's to open as well.
This TV does not have a single lamp but a set of CRT tubes.
If you get menu displayed on wrong clors or colors are not matching then it is either a bad CRT, a bad CRT high voltage power board, or sometimes a problem with convergence board and convergence ICs, however in this last case you usually get no picture and no sound .
If you are willing, remove the speaker grill and the rectangular board behind that and look very, very carefully underneath each of the three picture tubes for evidence of coolant drops on the printed circuit boards. These sets have been known to spill a few drops of coolant onto the boards and this causes intermittent problems such as yours. This is my first direction in your case. Let me know.
check this site first http://www.chrisandnat.com/Projects/BlinkingTV/blink.htm if you dont have this in your set then check convergance amp ic. http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm
I had the same problem with a WS 55813,2004 model.Paid 130.00 for local Mitsubishi authorized dealer that told me I needed a new DM module at an additional 505.00. Called Sears and they repaired the board for 146.00 by replacing four capasitors on the board. The tech said there is an exolaination on the web that explaines how to do this. He said this is a very common problem and carries 8 caps with him.He even had to do this to his own tv. The caps are worth 8.00 total.
