Question about Panasonic CT-20G6 20" TV

1 Answer

Which service manual setting controls horizontal size?

My horizontal width runs beyond both sides of the screen. I need to narrow it. I have the service manual and on p.20 under Cut-Off Adjustment I found the C6 adjustment for vertical size, but I can't find one to adjust horizontal size. If you have the service manual, can you tell me which one adjusts horizontal size? Thank you.

You're discussing about the factory mode adjustments. The horizontal width adjustments will not be there. You have to adjust it by replacing certain capacitors at the horizontal output stage.

For vertical size control, you can adjust it by entering its factory mode. But there is no data set adjustment to horizontal width or linearity. You have to adjust it by replacing the capacitor [connected to collector of the horizontal output transistor to Ground]. I'm in this field of TV service and repair, since 40 years, and doing the same now too. Check this link too.

OK, so the on-screen factory mode doesn't have horizonatal adjustment. Rats! I'm just a normal human being, not a service technicion, so I'm not able to do anything with capacitors and haven't the slightest idea what a collector of the horizontal output transistor to Ground is. I couldn;t find my model TV in the electronicshelponline link, so I guess I'll have to buy another TV. Thanks anyway.

Screen horizondally pulled right side and screen rolled to left side

your monitors horizontal deflection side have some problem. you have to check the horizontal width cotrolling transistor mounded on the aluminum heatsik near the lot( line output transistor). also check the three mosfets which adjust the width for different resolutions. there are three such mosfets in the horizontal section.

fist of all replace the width controlling transistor in the heat sink. photo of mosfet and transistor is added for reference. not the exact number.

Above is a manual link. usually you use multiple presses on the buttons to get to the menus. One button, is menu, the others are for up.down & left/Right. The same as for Horz Posn. You press the menu, use the L/R buttons to go to the menu item, then up and down to + or - the setting.
have a look at the manual.

Monitor width is out of screen

Check for shorted transistor, shorted diode, leaking/dried capacitor it could be ceramic or electrolytic. Look for some shunting diode or capacitor that is connected about horizontal size/width ciircuit. Leaking, shorted or open can make horizontal size shrink or expand.

Picture and text extend beyond screen

Your tv needs to be put into service mode with the original Sony remote control and then set the vertical\horizontal size parameter to the correct values and then burn the new settings to memory
Google " sony tv service mode " and you should find the procedure. Good Luck! Write back if you have problems.

Picture is too big for screen. What do i do?

You may be able to adjust the picture width and height if there are controls. Look at the back of the set for holes labeled V.Size and or H.Size, these are the Horizontal and Vertical size controls. You'll need a small screwdriver (3/16) to insert into the control and adjust.
If there are no controls then it may need to be serviced as there are capacitors that have failed which are causing the picture to change size.

HOrizontal width problem

With older sets i found dust as the main culprit in simmular situations.check for any  adjustment pot on the circiut controlling the screen width[normaly 3 pots close together open back of set to reveal electronic's]. be very carefull not being electrified as the set must be in operation while doing the adjustment.even turning the pot forward and back and then to the original position sometimes solve the problem.
