Usb I have two problems with this stupid machine and i am at my wits end. Problem one: The thing keeps freezing. That problem i think i have narrowed down to overheating but i am only about 75% sure. I have ran test on my ram (640 mb) everything was ok. tested hard drive, I actually have tried 3 different times and it still freezes. I took one final step to fix this problem and reinstalled windows and that is when problem number two arose. Problem number two: Not only does the computer still freeze but now my usb ports are screwed up too. I know they are usb 2.0 but windows tell me that they are 1.0 and the usb device i connect will not work WTF. I have lost all hope i have done everything i can think of and still the same outcome i need this computer i have an ipod and psp that are connected constantly and now they are pretty much useless too. PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE. I will be forever in your debt

Hi, Based on your post/description: Problem 1 - experience has shown me that most of the time freezing is caused either by memory, video card or driver/software. Since you have reinstalled windows, that should rule out driver/software. Likewise, since it has a built-in video (Via-S3 @ 32mb) video can also be ruled out; not unless of course if you have installed an AGP video card (which should be 4X @1.5v). If you have, try removing it first and run the PC with the built-in video just to determine if the video is causing the freeze/crash/hang. That leaves us the memory, as shipped this brand/model only has 128 MB DDR or SDRAM but as per your post the mem is 640mb so big chance that you have upgraded/replace/added mem say 128 + 512? Here's the issue, your PC uses KM266 chipset with an FSB of 266, big chance the original mem is 266 or 333 but the added mem would be something else? You have to check that its rating should be the same as the other/original memory. Both memories should be the same speed. Am not sure if your motherboard also uses dual channel memory, but if it does maybe it will be better to have 2 X 256 or 2 X 512 rather than 128 + 512 (max is 1G). Problem 2 - Sometimes Windows installer does not completely recognize features of mb/chipsets, you simply have to install the inf, drivers, updates for the motherboard. They are available at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00021854&dlc=en&product=326832&lang=en& Good luck and hopes this be of some help or ideas to you. Pls post back how things turn or for further information. Kind regards.
