Re: touchpad not working
Your synaptics driver may be corrupt, go to my computer>right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager, the nlook down the list for mice and othe pointing devices.
Click on the '+' sign and on the synaptics line, right click and select uninstal.
Restart the pc and then the driver should reinstall automatically, then give it another try.
Uninstall it, no need to restart the computer since Vista will reinstall it automatically. If there's an update driver, install it on top of the existing one.

There's a tiny orange light near the upper left corner of the touchpad to the left of the touchpad. If that is lit, you may only have to tap the upper left hand corner of the touchpad a couple of times to get it to go out. and start the touchpad working.
Barring that, see if the synaptics driver is installed. Go to "Control Panel," change the "view" in the upper right hand corner to "large icons," and see if "Synaptics Touchpad V8.1" is listed.
If not, go to "Control Panel," locate device manager and click (with a usb mouse) "mice and other pointing devices," click "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad," and check to see if it says, "device is working properly." If not or if it still doesn't work, click the driver tab, and click "update driver."
Since you do not specify the model number for your HP laptop one cannot be too specific. On my Toshiba laptop activation and deactivation of the touch pad is enacted by pressing the Fn-F9 sequence.
The actual Function key to press after the Fn key might have the picture of a touch pad on it. Examine tour laptop keyboard.
Hi there. The touchpad drivers could be corrupt, try reinstalling the touchpad drivers again. Go here to Toshiba Support fill in the details of your model laptop and download the synaptics touchpad driver and reinstall it, see if that helps.
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers download and setup your touchpad driver again. if still countine your problem then you may have a hardware problem with notebook. have a nice day and sorry for my english.
Hi!
I resently had the same problem on my HP laptop and search Google for possible solutions. No solution works until I tried Windovs Update and then got 5 alternatives - Synaptics PS/2 port TouchPad was one of them. I update and restart and finally solve this problem.
