The monitor reads: system boot failure. Insert recovery disk.

I don't have a recovery disk, nor does HP apparently. The product is a Compaq Presario 325 Intel Celeron D. Serial SRIIONX.
I started experiencing problems either after signing on with McAffee security, or adding additional memory cards. Until this time, I was able to perform a F10 system recovery. Now I seem to need the disks which don't seem to be available. The model is a 2004.

Thanks.

McAffee Security or adding memory cards should not effect the ability to do a system recovery, but so be it. Here is a list of presario laptops, do you know which is yours?

By the way, I think it is F11 for system recovery on the HP laptops.

Sorry about that. I searched the HP site for 325 and that is all that came up.

Did you try F11 for recovery mode?

"disk boot failure, insert system

You should have a recovery cd, it will allow you to reinstall Windows. If you don't have even that then either borrow one from a friend and use it with you key (the one on the sticker), or order a new disk by following this

Trying to fix an older pc presario SR2001WM it loads up to a black screen with the error: reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key could you...

Most PC's built in this time frame no longer shipped with a separate set of recovery CD's. Instead, the manufacturer provided a separate partition on the hard drive that contained the recovery program. To access this program, you would first shut off the system and disconnect all peripherals other than your keyboard and mouse. Then start the computer, pressing the F10 key on your keyboard repeatedly as the HP/Compaq logo appears. A recovery menu would appear, giving you the option to perform either a standard recovery or, under the Advanced options, a destructive recovery. The standard recovery will attempt to repair the system, leaving any of your data files intact. The destructive recovery option erases everything, then restored the computer to its original, out of box configuration.
Unfortunately, the recovery partition is on the hard drive itself, so if your problem is due to a hardware failure rather than simply a software crash, the above steps will not work. If this is the case, you will need to contact HP/Compaq and request a restore CD. The following link will take you to their website, and walk you through the process of determining if a set of recovery discs are available for your PC. Select your operating system from the drop down menu and then follow the link labeled Recovery Media.

How do i restart my computer so its like new?

You mean restoring the Laptop to factory settings?

You can do that by following tow ways. You can use Recovery Partiotion of your Notebook (if available) and you can use the Recovery Disk (if you have created). Providing you the steps for both....

Restoring to factory settings by Partition:
1.Connect PC to the AC power adapter.
2.Restart the notebook and Press F11 when HP logo appears.
3. Tap the F11 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
4. On the PC recovery window Select "Ok".
5. On the next screen read the system recovery information and Select "Advanced".
6. Select Destructive Recovery and follow on screen instructions.
7. Restart the notebook when prompted.
In case if the Recovery partition is not working, use the recovery disk. If you did not create the recovery disk, then order it online from following HP link....

Recovery disk order page for CQ60-220US (P/N: NB048UA#ABA)
https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=515690-002&lang=en&cc=us
If you are not able to open the link....
1. Open an Internet Explorer, type www.hp.com
2. In the search bar, type your Laptop's Product Number (P/N)
3. From the left side, click on 'Software & Driver download'
4. Select Microsoft Windows Vista from drop down
5. Click on + beside Recovery Media then click the link.

Instruction to install from Disk:
1. Insert the disc. Turn off the Notebook. Again turn on the Notebook with Disk inside.
2. Press "ESC" key on keyboard twice.
3. You should find one time boot device option.
4. Select CD/DVD as primary boot device and then hit enter key.
5. Now the installation should start.

My computer won't start, the creen shows Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and press enter. F10 doesn't work either

it means that you may have a corrupt/deleted windows, check your hard drive if it is working properly, if the hard drive is fine, then re-installation of windows is needed, or if you have a recovery disc use it to repair your windows

Still wont boot

Disk boot failure is usually a sign that your operating system has become corrupt in some way.
If you've got your Windows disc, put that in the CD rom, then boot the computer.
There's a "repair" option that you can select, instead of re-installed Windows.
That *should* fix the problem.
It's also (thought unlikely) possible that your hard drive has died completely.

Compaq Presario Disk Boot Failure, insert sytem disk and press enter

If you have your original Windows install disk, you can boot off of that, and should be able to recover most of your files, assuming your drive has not died fully. Depending on how important your files are, you can send the drive to a drive recovery service. I did that a couple years ago, they were able to recover all my files but it was EXPENSIVE. $1200.
