Toshiba TP43H95 "PICTURE PROBLEM"

HAVING A PICTURE PROBLEM. I TURN ON THE TV AND IT WORKS FOR A WHILE, SOMETIMES A FEW HOURS SOMETIMES LESS THEN THE PICTURE TURNS OFF BUT THE SOUND REMAINS. THEN I WILL TURN IT OFF FOR A WHILE THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND AGAIN SOMETIMES AN HOUR LESS OR MORE BUT THE PICTURE WILL TURN OFF. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN FIX IT CHEAP OR IF WOULD IT BETTER JUST TO BUY A NEW ONE. THANK YOU, PHIL

My TV will come and show a picture for a short time and then the picture starts to fade out into a gray fuzzy image. Shortly after it fades completely back while the sound remains. I would also like to know if there is an relatively inexpensive way to fix this problem.

SOURCE: No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Take out the bulb (back left hatch door) look to see if the element inside the bulb is broken or blackened - (replace bulb) if the bulb looks OK then it's the ballast that fires the bulb (service call).

SOURCE: Toshiba 62hm14 TV turns on with no picture but has sound then green light blinks and it shuts off

I actually found the solution, my manaul for the TV was missing a couple pages, very weird. I found the full manual online and there is a chart that shows what the blinking lights mean. It was my lamp, after I took it out it looked like it had exploded, so I ordered a new one from toshiba and replaced it. Very easy to do, costed about 120 for the lamp but no problems since.

Thanks for all of the responses.

If your set all of a sudden won't come on, e.g., the screen is blank, but the LED on the under the screen next to the on/off switch keeps flashing, then there may be an internal fault on the set that needs to be reset.
To force the reset, try this:

  • Unplug the set and wait a few seconds
  • Replug and see if the video returns
Whenever the set senses an internal fault through its monitoring circuitry, it essentially shuts down the set. The flashing LED provides the indication that a fault has been detected. Removing power to the set resets the monitoring circuitry. When plugged back in, the circuitry again does a check of the system. If it finds that there truly is a problem, then the set is shut down and the LED will again flash. In this case, you need to call a service tech. Most of the time, however, the unplug/replug routine is enough to get the set up and running.

You say it's a DLP yet the model number shows as a standard projection, anyway what you seem to have is a Hyper board problem, many shops can repair this Fragile board but it's not for the weekend tv tech to try to do

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?

Trying with a DVD will rule the tuners in the set in or out and also suggest a setting in the set or a box if used is causing this issue.

Picture goes bad (fuzzy&scrolls&lines) on Hitachi projection tv

Sounds like your convergence modules have gone bad. They have 21 close spaced pins to unsolder and resolder. You'll need a soldering iron with a fine point tip and thin gauge solder to do the repairs yourself. Solder bridges between pins are common when soldering these module pins, so have some unsoldering wick handy if you're going to fix it yourself. My TV pictures turns black afetr a few hours but I still can hear sound perfectly!!!

It sounds like your rptv lamp is going out. If this is an older DLP this is most likely the cause. You can get a replacement at www.laptopsforless.com part number BP96-00224J for $151. If the tv is still under warranty, I would have them do it, otherwise replace it yourself. If so here is a link to give you step by step instruction. Please give me a good rating. ;-)

It sure sounds like you have a classic case of bad solder joints. Resolder all the connections on all boards.
