My screen is displaying text and other visuals very strangely, I have looked everywhere and it seems to require a degauss. I do not know how to do this however. I hope you can help. The model is the LG Flatron W2261V
LCD flat panel monitors do not have or need a degauss function. The older CRT monitors had the degauss button to remove any magnetism that built up in the metal frame that would cause distortion. LCD monitors do not rely on magnetic fields so no degauss button. If your display is showing strange patterns and text the most likely cause is a bad video card. First try a different monitor on your card. I would bet the display is bad on it too. It you find this problem just replace your video card and the issue should go away.

degauss comes to mind... when older monitors build up magnetic field it distorts thic picture and a degauss shakes/scrambbles the screen and gives a nice *thongggg* sound that eleminates the disruptive magnetic build up. (or something)
only flaw with this answer is you usually degauss on purpose.... never seen a monitor degauss on its own, and only old projection style monitors worry about this
Shaking or trembling of a computer screen is often caused by
interference from another device that is within a couple feet.
It can also be caused by another monitor close by.
If the removal of these objects does not stop the trembling,
the monitor may have built up magnetism and need to be degaussed.
Find the menu button for your monitor.
This is usually on the front of the monitor.
It is sometimes on the side of the monitor.
Push the menu button. Scroll down until you find the screen option.
Select "Screen."
Scroll down to the degauss option.
Select "Degauss."
Select "OK."
The screen will make a tuning sound, as if you hit a guitar
string.
The screen will shake and vibrate.
The shaking should now be gone.
If it is not, it will need to be looked at by a
professional.
You can try to degauss it, not sure if that's the problem. May be something that cannot be fixed. Bring up the on-screen menu, locate the degauss option , and select it. You should now hear the degaussing noise, and the screen will probably display a brief burst of color.
If your using a CRT " older bulky monitor " your looking for a horseshoe magnet symbol, If your using an LCD or flat screen you do not degauss the screen, CRTs are driven by electromagnets steering a beam onto the front. The newer screens do not use an electromagnetic device and they do not have a use for degauss. You used the word degauge did you mean degauss? If your screen is a flat panel LCD/plasma and has color warping you may need to seek servicing.
It can be due to the effect of some kind of magnetic effect.. If your monitor has the degauss feature then degauss it ONCE and see if returns to normal. Do not use degauss feature more than once in less than half an hour. It can damage your monitor.
