Try doing a format with the camera. there should be an icon of a wrench in the menu--in this sub menu you will see "format." this action will erase anything on the card. i actually had the same problem with a canon camera, and this worked for me. Sometimes new flash cards are not compatible off the shelf--they need to be formatted. You should have at least flash cards to be sure card is not defective. Let me know if this helps!

That often happens as a result of a short on this model. Try emailing them at this site: www.camerasandparts.com They service the Canon Powershot cameras exclusively and they do excellent work, all for about half of what Canon wants. If you need help with it, that site is the place for a Powershot. They are excellent, send them an email and I'm sure they can help you with this problem. Good luck.

Turn on the camera. "Memory Card Error" displays.

You'd better change a new memory card that doesn't have a problem to check whether it is matter of Canon PowerShot A480,or use another well camera to check if it is error of your memory card.

Memory card error

Canon will fix this for you for free. It's an inherent fault with the S400. It has a little internal button battery that causes the problem as it gets old and run down. Check this website for more info. Look for the bright/bold yellow post describing how to return to Canon.

Good Luck!

Solution:
1 set date to 31-12-2030 23h59 and switch camera off.
2 wait two minutes, day will be 01-01-2003 and camera asks you to set the date
3 take away memory card
4 set the date to today
5 insert memory card again
Now your error should be solved.
