Putting second line on 'hold' when I am on the first line

My phone has 2 lines. When I am on the first line and a call comes through on the second line (same phone number) the second line will just ring and ring. I would like it to automatically go into 'hold' or to my voicemail. How can I do this?

  • swazichick Mar 18, 2009

I realize I can put the first call on hold. That's what I do. So, how do I program my system to do it automatically? That's what I want to know.

  • David Shaub May 11, 2010

You have to have the system programmed to do it automatically. You can put the first call on hold to answer the call though.

I am trying to setup voice mail on a RCA ViSYS 2-Line Phone (25255RE2), and i cannot figure it out.

RCA ViSYS 2-Line Phone (25255RE2)

Here's the manual for your 2-line phone:
http://www.rca4business.com/products/pc/pdf/instruction-book/25255RE2.pdf

refer to pages 40-43 of your manual for "Answering System Operation."

To enable your Answering System, press and hold the "ans sys" button for 2 seconds.
The "ans sys" button indicator will flash.

To disable your Answering System, press and hold the same button for 2 seconds.
The "ans sys" button indicator will go off.

How to change nokia 1661 phone to line 1

Some Nokia's have line 2 option but not all. You can switch back and forth in the network part of settings menu, but normally quickest way is to press # key and hold for a few seconds until it changes back to line 1. Its probably how it got changed to line 2 by accident.
Hope that helps?

How to add a second lint to Nortel Phone System???

So what, exactly, is your question? Physically, you order a second line in a "hunt" group, and plug or wire it into the system cabinet. By default, a Nortel system has 2 lines already programmed to the sets, but you will probably need to activate the second line appearance in programming.

We can't reprogram the phone afeter the power goes out.

To change the ringing on a prostar 816 you first need to be at a display set (doesn't matter what the extension number is).
with the handset down enter #20 the screen should say MMC DISABLED
1) enter in 1 2 3 4 1 # (that enables programming)
2) enter in #62 the screen should say day ring assn
3) press the line you wish to program
4) press the buttons for the extensions that you wish to ring (the ones in the right next to the handset)
5) press # when finished with the line
6) repeat steps 2 through 5 for the remainder of the lines you wish to change
The code for hold recall is #52
enter in your hold recall time in sec. and in a 3 digit format. i.e. 30 seconds = 030 a minute and a half is 090 and so on.
press # when finished

hope that helps

Second line not working

The phone will show that "line in use" message when it's not connected correctly.

If your two phone lines come in to one jack, make sure you are using a 4-wire line cord connected to the "line 1 and line 2" jack on the phone. You may be using a 2-wire cord so the second line isn't reaching the phone.

If the two lines are on separate jacks you need to connect line 2 to the separate "line 2" jack.

If you know for a fact that both lines are properly connected to the phone and it still doesn't see the second line, then it's time for a new phone.

RCA 4 line phone

Hi Richman,

If you have more than one phone line which I assume that you do -if one party has not completely hung up the handset after putting someone on hold when you pick it up on your end you will hear that beeping noise that you are talking about. Have them pick back up the line while you are on it and replace the handset again on thier phone to disconnect completely.

I hope this helps (trial and error)
Thanks
