Frige problem freezer works, frige not cooling(no air (cold) blowing inside frige) all lights and other functions - OK.

    We defrosted the freezer. When we plugged the unit back in, it will not start up.

This is almost a word for word common problem. On frost free fridge freezers of this type all cooling is generated through the freezer side and is merely forced into the fridge side through airflow. Therefore if you have a problem with the fridge you have a problem with the freezer section. The most likely cause is that the coil is frozen up. We would always suggest defrosting unit overnight in case it was simply a door left ajar being the cause of the fault. If the unit then pulls the fridge temp down and it was not the door ajar then you probably have a defrost problem (heater or defrost thermostat, or defrost timer). If it fails to pull the fridge temp down on restarting then it could be the fan or part of the defrost circuit or even possible the cooling circuit. The normal outcome after defrosting is that the temp will drop in the fridge due to air circulation improved, which will probably remain cool for 2-3 weeks until the coil becomes frozen again. On either result I would contact an engineer on the 2nd failure occurrs so that the engineer can establish the exact cause. Hope this helps.

Fridge is not getting cold even though the thermostat is at 5
Most friges take cool air from the freezer with a fan to cool the rest of the unit. I am not familar with your model but there should be a fan somewere in the back of your freezer. Also make sure you have space in back and to the sides of the fridge for air flow.

Freezer and frige not that cold
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Bottom Freezer working but not side!
Typically the freezer air is circulated into the frige area to provide cooling. If the circ. fan is not working or the air ducts/channels/dampers are blocked with ice, food, etc. then no cool air will get from the freezer to the frige area. Check all the air channels and to see if the dampers are open along with the circulation fan running. The diagrams at the following link should help you see inside better. If your lower circulation fan is running then you likely have an air return/supply channel blocked with ice and will require an old style defrost (unplug unit and leave doors open for 24 hours to melt ice, etc.). If the fan isn't running then that needs to be replaced. how to access the pan under the fridge : My maytag refrigerator is leaking again (model MZD2768GEW) Comments : I have a Maytag refrigerator (side by side), year 2000 appr., model MZD2768GEW, that seems to constantly requires some fixin. It's leaking again. Last year, for the 2nd time, I had the Defrost Assy replaced. Before that, a technician came, again, as it was leaking, to learn that the drain was clogged (now I know how to do this). So I know that the drain is not clogged, the Defrost assy seems to be ok, could it be the pan that cracked? How can I verify this? Is it hard to fix? So far, I have paid close to $600 in repairs, for a fridge that we paid $2400, what happened to Maytag's name? I am thinking, should I let it go and buy a new one, don't think it's gonna be a Maytag this time. My experience has not been so wonderful, not mentioning my hard wood floor messed up! , boards are now wavy ... Help!!!!

We have a Maytag mzd2768 side-by-side. Ever since we got it , new, when you press the lever to get ice it makes a very loud buzzing noice while the ice is falling into your glass. Once you stop pressing the lever, the buzzing stops but is followed by a very loud single click. This only happens when you're getting ice. There aren't any issues with the ice maker or the freezer section and the water comes out normally. The ice maker has already been replaced twice, but the buzz-click continues. How in the world do we get that buzzing noise to stop? It's REALLY loud :(
