I had my HP Pavillion model a1646x running Windows XP to the shop because it would not boot, Shop ran ''fixmbr'' and ''fixboot'' it now boots up but I can't reinstall my HP C6380 printer ''operation can not be completed because print spooler is not working''. I have used the installer CD and also tried the HP web site installer with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Check the following steps to fix Printer Spooler Error :
Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.
In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right
Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".
Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".
Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.
Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.
Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.
The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic
If you have the windows disk for it , Save everything important to disks. Put WIndows disk into machine and tell it to install. It will find you version and ask if you wish to repair it, Say yes. If you have Xp pro just "Restore" computer to the date before the problem started. If you have neither one. Save you work and then reinstall everything using your backup disks.
Here is the HP product support page for your computer. Download a manual and create a set of back up disks. Also you should be able to purchase complete systems disks for your model from HP, for a lot leass than what a shop might charge you..

To manually stop and restart the Spooler Service : 1- Click Start, click Run, type command, and then click Ok to display the command.com window 2-Type net stop spooler, then press Enter 3- Type sc config spooler depend= RPCSS start= Auto, then press Enter. (The spaces between = and RPCSS and = and Auto, are VERY IMPORTANT, without these spaces, the command fails) 4- Type net start spooler, then press Enter
Check to make sure that the printer is not on a network..I had that issue when I tried to print recently. Also, you might try completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Good Luck

It appears to be a Windows XP problem because it won't let it install

Thank You for trying to assist this "Novice", I do not have back up disks or a windows disk so it will be back to the repair shop for me. Thanks Again. Stormin49
Is the print spooler part of the software for the printer or something that need to be fixed within the windows software itself?
