Re:
Sure.
Just plug it in.
Go to "My computer" RIGHT click on the sansa m240 icon and choose FORMAT.
Let me know if this worked. (and don't forget to rate my solution).

It does. If you don't care about losing the information on the player try it. It helped other people.

Unfortunately, you have likely overwritten the old songs by copying new songs.
One free product worth trying is Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/download)
Download and install Recuva, plug the mp3 player into your computer, and see what can be recovered. Even if you can see some of your old songs they might be corrupted so make sure to listen to them.
When you say having difficulty in adding the songs in CLIP, though you have enough space. I'd kindly request you to check for the number of songs that you have added.
Because when you add as MP3 player by default its bit rate is 128kbps so you can add up to 500 songs only. Kindly have a check on it.
I have given the number of songs that can be added with related to size of MP3 player..
Size of the player :512MB
1GB
2GB
4GB
8GB

32GB

I still don't know why the Sansa Clip deleted my songs, but I was able to get it connected to my computer after switching the USB Mode (In the settings selection) to a different setting. I don't understand how or why it worked, it just did. (My computer runs on Windows XP so I don't know if this solution will work on other computers)
first you have to turn your sansa on and go to the setting and then you have to go to usb mode and ptu it on "mtp"
then plug it back up to your computer and this time when you plug it up the computer will start detecting it and when add song use your windows media player
to add or delete songs you simply view it as a hard drive then drag and drop the sings you want on the folder marked sansa. to delete do the same thing in reverse.
You can delete them thru My Computer.
Double click on the Sansa (m200), inside you will see a Music Folder. Inside is your individual tracks, separated by album names.
You can add or delete all music from here.
Best of Luck.
go to www.download.com and search for a program called Unlocker 1.8.5 it's free...
after installation, right click the file to unlock the file and it should be fixed to delete...
I was on here cuase my unit froze...
i'm having a similar problem. every time i sync new music my computer tells me its on, but the tracks aren't on the player. it also refreshes every time i turn it on, which takes forever amd is getting really annoying. could this have something to do with my new microSD card?
