My vacuum is making a horrible noise!

I've had this vaccum for about two years with no problem. Then all of a sudden I'd turn it on and within a few seconds it would start to make a horrible loud sound. Sounds like a blender on a rampage. I cleaned out all of the dust and hair and made sure the belt was fine. It also has a burning smell if I leave it on too long with that sound going. Is there any way I can fix this myself? Because I'm way too poor to bring it somewhere or get a new vacuum. Thanks to anyone who can help me! Jamie

This model by Dirt Devil is notoriously noisy anyway. Flip the model over on its side and check the floor plate where the brush is spinning; undo the screws and check the condition of your drive belt. The Dynamite and the Quick Vibe uprights are both very noisy - I couldnt wait to get rid of both of mine!

My dyson DC24 makes a horrible noise when the brush is spinning.... like it's not stable.

Hi Michelle, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. The rattling noise could be caused by something obstructing the brush bar. Please take a look at the video attached, and make sure the cleaner head is free of blockages, and the brush bar is free of any threads or hair. Once you've removed the brush bar, check both this and the cleaner head for any visible damage.

Once you've reassembled the machines, please test it to see if it's still making the unusual noise. If it is, our experts will be happy to help further - and if a replacement part is needed, they can confirm if we're able to order this under the terms of your machine's 5-year guarantee.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

Jack

Vax mach xp reach seems clogged and light is on

Clean the filters as per the user guide AND remove the silver, where the clear plastic handle is. On te back by the purple catch to release the dirt container is a screw - remove that and then remove the 3 screws on the purple lid with holes in it, remove the lid & clean the "cyclones" - mine were all blocked. Make sure all the bits are clean & dry & re-assemble.

My Hoover brush spins, but doesn't have very strong suction. I've checked the filter, tubes, but it seems as though something is stuck inside. Can you tell me how to check behind the roller to...

To get the roller out.Turn the machine upside down. You will see some screws.Remove them. That allows you to remove that plate. The roller will just lift out. Some have a cap on it and can fit tight. On the back of the machine are two more screws that hold the hose on.You can take the hose off there ,if you have not already.Running a straightened out wire hanger through the hose will insure that there is not a clog you may be missing. As it is a few years, replace the belt while you have the roller out.It is on one end of the roller and the other end slips on a small wheel. It is easy to do and may improve the over all performance of the vacuum.

Loud noise/Sounds clogged

You could have a clogged air filter and vacuum is not getting air to motor. You could have hair and string buildup on ends of roller brush. You can put a vaccum hose over a broom handle to clean it out. Also, check the little elbow of the hose at the bottom f vacuum where it bends.

LOUD GRINDING NOISE ALL OF A SUDDEN , LOOSE BELT ?

you will probably have a faulty roller bar take of panel on bottom of vaccum. Now remove the roller bar hold the bar by both ends and try spinning. This should be easy and smooth if not pull off the end cap these will be very tight and check the bearings in each end i think you will find a few small metal balls rolling around inside if this is the case you need to replace the bar

The beater bar makes a horrible clunking noise when I turn it on

I just came from the repair shop. There is a recurring problem with a bearing coming out. Repair guy turned it on & said that loud noise is a symptom of that exact problem. This is a warranty item, as is the belt & on/off switch. Dyson comes with a 5 year warranty, so call their 800 number to get the name & address of an authorized repair shop.

Extremely loud

Mine started making a lot of noise and my husband noticed the brushroll was slightly bent. I have no idea how this happened, but I noticed several people online were having the same problem. I ordered a new brushroll and popped it in and solved the problem. The noise before I did this was horrible! It is now back to normal.

Bissell vaccum problem

Could be plugged, check the hose and at the bottom by the brush roll, the inlet maybe clogged. Also check the filter under neath the dirt tank. There are filters above the dirt container, clean those out. If after that it is still loud, then maybe the motor fan or bearins are bad and will have to be replaced, part #2031214 sells for around $55.

Hi.

Check that brush roller (beater bar) is free to turn with no obstruction.
