Acts like its printing but no ink on paper

Everything appears to be working correctly but when I print or copy I don't get any ink on the paper. IT APPEARS THAT I MAY NEED A NEW INK CARTRIDGE BUT I USUALLY GET A NOTICE SAYING I NEED A NEW INK CARTRIDGE AND I AM NOT GETTING THAT. I WOULD HATE TO BUY A NEW INK CARTRIDGE FOR 25-35 BUCKS AND THAT NOT BE THE PROBLEM. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE A BIG HELP!

I tried the solutions that were offered but either my printer is even more screwed up than i thought, or it didn't work.

My test page came out with three color bars in the center of the page: blue, magenta, and yellow. There were no streaks in the bars. However, if I remember correctly there is usually a bunch of black bars all over the test page, and these did not print out at all.

Using HP Director, you should be able to check estimated ink levels by selecting Settings -> Print Settings -> Printer Toolbox and then clicking on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.

If the ink levels appear to be sufficient, on the printer control panel press Setup, 1, 4. This will generate a self-test report. If there is streaking of any of the 4 bars at the bottom of the page, the affected cartridge may need to be cleaned. If any of the bars are missing, the cartridge needs to be replaced.

To clean the cartridges, press Setup, 5, 1. This will print a page of patterns.

This happened to me and drove me nuts. Printer was working perfect earlier in the day, then started printing blank pages. Oh it sounded like it was printing, but no ink on the pages. Replaced ink cartridges, cleaned print heads...to no avail.
What fixed it for me was pulling the power plug from the back of the printer (HP PSC 1610 All-In-One) waiting about 20-30 seconds...then plugging it back in.

I just had this exact same problem, took eme 2 hours to figure it out.  we were using office depot cartridges in it and they were not working properly.  put in an HP cartridge and it worked flawlessly.  so i would recommend trying an actual HP cartridge

I have an x6150 and it had been working fine. I ran out of ink and replaced the cartridge not too long ago. I printed a few items (not much) and all of a sudden when I hit print, it acts like it is...

Print quality issues could be due to clogged or dirty print cartridge nozzles. Try the steps below to improve print quality on your Lexmark X6150 printer:
  1. Load paper in the All-In-One.
  2. On the printer operator panel, press Copy.
  3. Press Options until Maintenance appears on the display.
  4. Press the right arrow until Clean Cartridges appears on the display.
  5. Press Select. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
  6. Print your document again to verify that your print quality has improved.
You may also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if it's not a cartridge issue.

My Lexmark X6170 is smearing all images that are about a third of the way down the paper. Everything else is printing fine.

Try to clean the cartridge nozzles using the printer control panel.
  1. Load paper.
  2. Press Copy.
Also, check your ink levels. Make sure your ink levels are substantial for printing.

Won't print

Try the following steps:

Check for and remove any grayscale settings. Use the following steps to check this setting.
  1. In the program, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Select the correct product and then click Properties . The Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Color tab.
  4. Check the Print in Grayscale setting. If necessary, unselect the setting.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
If this doesnot work:

    1. Open the Printer Toolbox .
    2. Open HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
Now Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab. This will tell u that the cartridge might be running out of ink even if the graphic shows that there is ink remaining in the cartridge.Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.
  • If this doesnot work:
  • If the Print in grayscale option is not the problem and the print cartridges are not low on ink, print and evaluate a self-test page to determine if the cartridges or printer is causing the problem.
    1. Load the input tray with unused plain white paper.
    2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button.
    3. Release both buttons. The self-test page prints.
This will definitely work for u.
    Thank u.

S520 will not print in any color

If you have tried to print a nozzle check page and no ink has been deposited on the page, then it might be a bad logic board inside the printer or a faulty purge unit. Both parts are relatively expensive to purchase. You might be better off looking for a used Canon s520, i550, i850, pixma 3000, or similar model to use the remaining ink cartridges if you can locate one in good condition and not more than 40 USD. xcd187
