SOURCE: Refrigerator door won't shut

Check to see if the door gasket has forzen water that is preventing it from collapsing like it should and wedging the door open. This would most likely be on the hinge side of the door.

Also make sure the gasket is not bent or warped and binding as it closes.

Let us know if you find nothing wrong there and we can look further.

SOURCE: Loud thump from refrigerator when it shuts off???

If its a rattle, kind of a shake sound that ends in a phthump then its the compressor moving around after it has removed the heat from the unit. You may want new rubber mounts but I would leave it.

Running problems

You don't say how long you have to unplug it for. If you wait a couple of hours allowing the compressor to cool, then plug it back in, you could have a compressor getting hot and shutting off.

There is a fan at the compressor that helps to keep it and the condenser cool. (you can normally feel a little warm air coming out the front at the bottom) remove the back of the refrigerator (at the bottom)

If the compressor is running - the fan should be running as well. check the fan to make sure it is running. if not- check to make sure there is not an object or trash of some sort stuck in the fan. The fan motor could also be bad. .

Be sure to re attach the back of the refrigerator. it has to have it on so that the air flows properly across the compressor to keep it cool.

Ice keeps building up in freezer. Then the refrigerator stops cooling. You can get the ice off the vents in bottom back of freezer and it will start cooling again but only last a couple days before it...

Your freezer coil needs a good defrost. You are getting only a little bit of the ice off. It stops cooling because the ice acts like a insulator over the coil so it is unable to cool. Was to get this done is to empty it out and shut if off and leave the door open or maybe a hair dryer or even so warm water.
I hope this helps.

I keep hearing water running into a tray underneath my refrigerator. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal, that is the sign that your refrigerator is running just fine.

When your refrigerator start running, you set the thermostat to a certain temperature, your refigerator will automatically shut off once it reaches the temperature you desired, that is giving the chance to rest your refrigerator for a while, during this shut off period, it will melt some ice, the water will go directly to the tray below your refrigerator. once the thermostat sense the the coldnest inside the refrigerator is slow vanished then the compressor will start again to attain a certain temperature.

that cycle keeps repeating that procedure

Our amana refrigerator is a BX21TL. Serial # 9809197207. It is approx. 8 years old. The freezer wont stay cold enough? I would guess it approx. 35-36 degree's... Help...

First is the refrigerator running constantly, if it is then it is probably low on freon also check that all the door seals are good as this can keep it from freezing properly. If it is not running constantly but running and shutting of and restarting as it should normally then you may have a bad cold (temperature) control shutting it off before it gets cold enough. Also check that there is clearance for the air to flow around the outside of the refrigerator as the evaporator coil transfers the heat from the refrigerator. This evaporator coil is usually mounted on the back of the refrigerator and needs to have unrestricted air flow. Be careful of electrical shock while working on it. Always unplug first you only get electrocuted once no second try.

Compressor hums and shuts off

This sounds very much like a compressor failure. unplug the refrigerator and check the condenser for cleanliness. After cleaning the condenser and allowing the compressor to cool, plug it back in and listen for the same sounds. If the compressor was overheated it should restart after it cools. If it does not restart the compressor could be seized. Check the compressor warranty against the age of the refrigerator.

My samsung fridge/freezer srs536np keeps turning off but when i turn power off and backon again it will run , but sometime it can turn off again and if i di the same again it will run

If it is the thermostat from which you are turning it off and then back on again from it is possible that the thermostat is bad and in need of replacement. A thermostat turns off with temperature. Before it will turn back on for cooling the differential must be overcome. If it shuts off at 34°F it will not restart until its temperature reaches the higher built in differential temperature.

Also if you shut the refrigerator off while it is running you should not turn it back to the on position for five to 10 minutes. This is necessary to allow the pressures to equalize with-in the refrigeration system .
