Restore factory settings

Hi I have the IBM ThinkPad T30. I am trying to restore it to factory settings as I can not run anything from the main screen without using the ctrl alt delete feature as there are no icons no start menu tab, nothing. The ThinkPad button and the blue button do not work when I press them and I was wondering if there was another way to the menu that offers the restore factory settings of if there is another way to wipe the drive. I have the install disk. but it needs more space to install. Thank you and sorry for my ignorance.

Restart the Computer and keep tapping the F8 key till you see the advance boot options, You should be tapping the key as soon as you see the manufactures screen. Once you get the advance boot options -> Select the option which says Repair your Computer once its Selected click next on the Keyboard Layout Option, Now it would ask you for a User name and Password, Click on the User name Tab and select User/Owner extra and Type in your password if the computer has one if not you can leave that field blank, then click on next, Now on the recovery options screen you would be able to choose System Restore, Command Prompt extra. I think with the issue your facing System Restore would be the best Option to do.
Good Luck!!!!!

SOURCE: Trying to restore Dell Inspiron 1501 to factory settings.

don't hit ctrl, f11 instead hit F8 and then go into Dell Factory Image Restore, that will wipe, format and reinstall all the factory software that's stored on the Recovery Drive (usually the D: drive) good luck.

IBM Thinkpad T30 2366 won't boot after the IBM Thinkpad screen

you can go to the BIOS setting? if you can, look for "Boot Device Priority" or something like that,it's usually placed on Advanced settings. Set the first boot device as your harddisk, save the settings and restart your computer
Please let me know if it's working or not

Tried to install update and computer crashed

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.

LCD

First try this, right click on the desktop, click properties, open the screen saver tab, click the power button, then change the screen settings to never. If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid it's a hardware issue. Check the screen connections, connection to the back of the screen, screen to inverter, and screen to motherboard (under the keyboard), sometimes the connectors can work loose. If the connections are good, then the issue may lie with the inverter or screen itself. More than likely an intermittent problem with the inverter.

Key board stops responding when windows loads

your mouse freezes; you should only use system restore as a last resort
any virus/spyware you had in the past will come back
turn the computer off(you may have to shut power off pressing on power button)
when you see ibm logo, tap F8 key repeatedly until your hear beeps or a high pitched noise
use option safe mode; use 'most recent config where my settings worked' option in safe mode(use up and down arrow keys to highlght, then press enter)
If that does not work, try another(earlier) restore pt w system restore or install mouse drivers on a cd on another laptop, then
place in cd rom and try to install it on the problem laptop
if this is no good, you should really reinstall windows, back up impt docs, etc.(delete old partition)
that model has a built in restore function by pressing F11 on startup, it will restore your piece to factory condition(along w spyware that comes along w the builtin ibm utility)
I had the same exact laptop, the fan got noisy, so I replaced it w another that was from a good t30, guess what:
"fan error"
Ibm laptops are too problematic to work on
thats why I use dell
if you need more help, msg me or post on here
