TV was working fine this morning, then all of a sudden it switched itself to standby and will not switch on with the remote and if i switch is off at the button and then back on again, the red standby light comes on but it wont "fire up" inside the set - Is it worth repairing as its about 4 years old
Hi. I have a SHARP 29" TV (model : SX-68E9) and it has similar problem. Recently it switches off to STAND-BY every about 25mins of usage. It is very consistent at about 20-25mins of usage only and it went into STANY-BY mode. I tried using reote to switch on or turn the Push Button off and on but still on Standby mode. After waiting for say 10 -15mins or so I could turn on again. The cycle repeats itself. This TV is not so old but about 8 yrs. I did check all function and timer nothing was being set and no timer or lock was activated. Everything was normal. Anyone has advise if this is a serious proble of just something minor. Thanks.Hi. Why shouldn't it be worth fixing? It's only 4 years old, my own TV is 15yo, I fixed it twice but it's still kick'n! You have a problem in the power supply, do you have electronic's know how? And test equipment? Soldering equipment? If so we could walk you through it, If not A repair man should only cost 80 to 100 to fix it.

Your tv sounds fairly normal to me - there is a difference between a tv being switched off and being on standby. It is usual for a tv to need to be switched on manually and from there the remote would be able to switch it between on and standby.
Sometimes the "power" button of the remote only switches the set to standby and selecting a channel would switch it from standby...
Powering up do you hear the relay click then you may see the display flash (not necessarily), but then the TV clicks back into standby mode. If so there is a component failure.
will need diagnosis by a repair shop. Too many different components it could be for me to guess. but
the common repair kit containes1 fuse (F302), 1 diode (D304), the power resistors (R927 and R929 for the board revisions with these two resistors) and the IC301 voltage regulator IC.
I think the problem with the remote control it malfunction take the remote control away from the tv
and test the tv
I had the same problem and one time the tv came on by itself
now i took the remote control away and testing the tv
now for 15 min. so far so good
try it and let me know
or call sony 1--800-222-7669

thanks

There's an option on the menu to tuen 'demo mode' on and off. If it's set to on, that's your problem. It will be switching input sources every 2 minutes or so. Switch this off and it'll be ok again.
have you tried changing the batteries just to elimate this problem
change them
sometimes if the batteries are low in electronic devies, they send a wek signal to its receiver (your tv),
your tv gets confused and then switches itself to standby
if you have changed the batteries and this problem still persists
it can only then be th PSU or power supply unit, take it to your local tv repair shop of mastercare somewhere like that, its going to be cheaper to get it repaired than replacing the whole tv
PSU'S generally 20 to 50 pounds depending on model
don't deo it yourself though unless you've got a capacitor discharger (or a nice 25KV will be on its way to your body)
Right i had this same problem for ages! i cannot explain why but when i uplugged my DVD player (which was flashing its light at the same time as the tv for some reason) the TV has worked fine.
