Well Not having taken one apart, I would not know or advise except to say it is probably like grand fathers watch You know having put is all back together after cleaning it sill does not go aright and what do you do with all the bits left over? Olympus customer support I would think is the best place to inquire- especially if is a youngish camera

Swamy did u find a solution for the shutting down issue in Olympus C770UZ?
I too Have the same problem, when i want to turn camera off, i have to pull battery out which might cause problem to the camra in future.
I use two Olympus 770's, one is my own and one at work. They were purchased about 6 months apart and both have developed this same problem within 2 months of each other! So far I just remove the batteries to turn them off

The power does not go off. The only way to make it go off is to remove the battery. Not a fun way to take pictures. :(
How weird it is! I cannot get the camera to shut down. It will not change to playback mode or off although the power switch does move to both positions.I called tech support. Cost to repair is average $165 with Olympus. I haven't found anything more reasonable. Trade in value? $57.00 IF it's functioning properly. Seems better to purchase less expensive cameras now. I bought mine in "04. They've improved so many things, but this is as bad as buying new computers every few years. How very disappointing!
The
Power switch is not turning off
Hi,
I have similar problem with the on/off switch, but worse ;) The camera
does not switch into the picture mode (3rd from the left on the sliding
switch), and the lense does not extend. I can turn it off and I can
take movies.
It seems to be a mechanical problem with the switch, which does not
properly connect. The fault has developed without any "shock" to the
camera.
Any ideas, beyond opening the case? (Costs of repair are above camera's value).
Thanks,
PK
Camera will not power down and lens stays out when switch turned to off.
Regards Colm
my problem is similar to kordas'. camera function will not work but the movie, still, and off functions work. any solutions other than opening the camera and tinkering around? perhaps the last time i buy an olympus.
