Honda GCV160 5.5 on a pressure washer runs only intermittently

After sitting over the winter, our pressure washer will not run consistently this year. It will start and run for about 1 minute, then surges a few times and dies as if fuel starved. After a few pulls, it will repeat this over and over.

I have pulled, disassembled, and cleaned the carburetor thoroughly, and replaced the spark plug. This model has some sort of automatic throttle, but it still dies even if I hold the throttle open.

The problem is the plastic float in the carburetor, it's not adjustable and after sitting up with gas in it it distorts. Save yourself the trouble and buy a new one, you can get them online for $15-$20.

Engine runs but back fires then dies when put under load

Rebuild the carburetor. Just replace the old gaskets, diaphragms, needle and seat. You can get a rebuild kit from your local lawm mower repair shop. also, don't run last years gas and if you keep gas in the tank over the winter buy a winterizer and pour it in the tank when starts to get cold. Hope this helps!

Likely the gas it bad you can,t leave fuel in tank over winter with out gas stablizer You have to drian the tank and remove the float bowl from carb and lite that drain then put it back together and it will run with new gas may not run good for first 5 or 10 munites but will smooth out

190 honda engine only runs on choke?

pour a large amount of carburator cleaner into the gas tank
run the engine for five minutes then shut it off and let it sit for a couple of days.
then start it and see if it runs any better
the longer you let it sit with the carb cleaner in it, the better it should run

Losing pressure more and more often, especially

not quite sure where to get the parts, but if the pressure starts out ok and decreases as it runs, it is generally that the piston rings/seals are worn out, this can happen just from sitting up over the winter.

You can google Honda Pressure Washer Parts to find a supplier for the seals/rings
